cbroo
I took my car in for a 90k maintence check. The mechanic said my knock sensor is out. Anyone have advice on price, and what it affects. He also told me it's running rough. I know a little bit but not as much as most of you. Any advice or feedback will help. I have a 2001 LGT so it's a little older model. Opie
Knock Sensor detects knock (pinging, etc) in the engine and advances or retards timing to correct the knock. If the sensor is bad, the car will usually run very poorly....probably why it runs rough.... It's not hard to replace, but you'll need to clear the ECU memory once it's replaced to clear the code. cbroo
cool, the guy didnt quote me a price, he said tomorrow he will know, any idea on price and labor. There probably not going to charge too much for labor but for the parts I'm a little scared. I have a catback exhaust and a K&N airfilter with a straight pipe running to my airbox. Will this cause this to happen frequently, or will it be fine after the service is complete?

Opie
P/N: 22060AA070 sells for about $75-$80 and usually runs about an hour labor (that includes diagnostic, replacing the sensor and resetting the ECU.

stanjk3
Had it replaced on our car in Aug. Ran a lot smoother afterwards. IIRC was ~$150, guess it's tougher to replace on the 2.2L. Friends don't let friends drink cheap beer.
