HELP: Can anyone tell me what Turbo Oil Feed line replacement will work for the Spec B GT Auto VF38 Turbo

Dear all

Can anyone tell me what Turbo Oil Feed line replacement will work for the Spec B GT Auto VF38 Turbo

 

My 2004 WR Limited is in the garage after having a turbo rebuild, and they were going to fit a new braided line form ICP (Fuji Racing AVCS & Turbo Braided Oil Feed Line - Legacy Twin Scroll 03-06), but it will not fit, as per the pictures, and ICP have no fitment advice. So the car has been stuck in the garage for weeks now, as they try and work out what's needed, and they are not JDM specialists so are a bit stuck.

Has anyone on here replaced the standard turbo oil feed lines, and if so what did you buy?

I would think a catalogue with AN fitting would have something that is shorter which could be swapped out for that part… maybe something that has a 45* bend to one side would give you the required clearance?

Never heard of a long neck fitting???  A right angle fitting? A m/f vs f/m?  I can see several ways around the lack of space by using different fittings.  Been there, done that.  Who is this shop as a warning should go out to avoid like the plague.  XRP and probably Earls both make fittings to alleviate your issue.  If it was at my shop, we would have had it fixed in about 45 minutes.  The time it would take me to drive over to XRP and buy the fittings needed, drive back and thread the line together.  

 

Chances are I already had the fittings in my own inventory as I built a LOT of lines.  Even filtered oil feed lines, lol.

They were trying to move the t, so they had me buy a coupe of lines to move the t, but they then said it was still to tight as there are mounts and brackets in the way, sadly as the cars in bits at the garage, I just have to wait and see.

Could some one point me to the parts? as I have no part number, and need to buy it in the UK. For wither the bango bolt with a shorter neck, or the 45 / 90 angles.

I believe there are 7/16 and guess an4, but not 100% sure.

No whats in the pic looks standard.  A short fitting has no neck.  Threads are right off the banjo. Standard has about 1/2" or more.  A long neck normally has 1" or more.  A long neck comes in straight, 45deg and 90deg normally. Some might have different bend options. 

 

If the problem is exacerbated by using a banjo, you could always replace it with a male/male fitting.  Pipe to AN.

Not wanted to argue, but in the initial picture, I can see my bango has a long neck, there is a short one as you say where the thread comes of the bango, but the one they have fitted to the block has a longer neck, so the t piece was sitting to high when they try and fit it. Not sure why they didn't try and swap it with the other short one but hey ho.

I have took you advice, and ordered a 90 and 45 fitting to try and give them options and a bango with the thread off the fitting, the issue was I didn't know what size I needed, but I have gone with a 4an 12m based so some research, just hope the thread pitch is right.

Worse case, If I can get the original pipe I can send it to earls and get one made up, more time and expense though.

Once again, that does not appear to be a long neck banjo. 30mm+ for just the length of pipe extending off the banjo before the AN fitting. What I see looks standard as in under 30mm.  

 

I can not fathom how a professional shop willing to take on a custom install has no imagination or ingenuity when it comes to using different fittings and hoses to supply oil.  You came to an internet forum asking for free assistance with a simple oil line that a shop you are paying cant figure out for 2 weeks.  Then want to debate with someone who has professionally designed, built, fabricated and sold literally thousands of Subaru turbo oil feed lines.  The ridiculousness of the entire situation. 

Carry on. Good luck to you. As a courtesey you should name the shop so no one else on this forum makes the same mistake. It is obvious they do not know what they are doing.

 

I have pix of custom lines I built for an 05 LGT 5MT wagon with a jdm twin scroll set up. I will keep them to myself for now. Dont want to give your shop a free lesson.

I agree that any shop you are leaving your car at for this long should have worked this out pretty quick. These parts are freely available, and relatively inexpensive. I mean, they are small, but this could have been cut and Tig welded as a worst case…

Can’t think of any other way to help, sorry mate. I know nothing about where to source parts where you are at. (I assume the UK?)

Thanks for all the advise. The garage say they have managed to make it work, just new to them I guess, and I should have it back Monday, not sure what it will be like though as I've lost faith, as god forbid the turbo gets oil starved again.

Fair enough.

I am not saying anyone is wrong, I'm trying to learn, buy asking questions.

The main thing I wanted to know is does a after market oil line that can be shelf for the auto, but I guess it doesn't exist.

I might send my original line off to earls, and get a flexi one made up.

If you can find the part number of the OE JDM one, you can almost certainty just buy one.

Any reason you need it made from AN fittings?

The OE lines are generally understood to be up to the task, even on bigger aftermarket turbos.

Fewer failure points in a solid metal line than one with a bunch of fittings. Just sayin’

Silly KZ.  He has a turbo out of a 03-06 JDM/AUS Legacy/Liberty.  SpecB, 2.0 liter engine VF-38 turbo, twin scroll set up.  He installed said turbo into a 2004 Imprezza WRX WR (possibly limited).  Thats the fit issue.  The OEM oil supply pipe apparently will not work for this swap.

thanks for your help.

The car is back, and sorted. The garage did take a time, but mainly because they were so busy, and forgot to mention that when they agreed to have my car dropped off.

The issue I had was fitting the Fuji Racing AVCS & Turbo Braided Oil Feed Line - (Legacy Twin Scroll 03-06) from ICP to my 2004 Subaru Legacy Spec B GT as it was an Auto, and ICP had no fitting advice.

The solution in the end was to modify one of the brackets, as per the picture, and the garage was able to fit the line.

I am happy with the result.

Cheers for the support, and interactions. (and here's a pic of her back on the driving, awaiting a centre pipe, and a pic of my lovely refreshed turbo.
