Mr. Electric Wizard
I bought this turbo blanket for my custom JMP VF52 but it doesn't look like it's going to fit very well. Here's the link to the item: https://www.ebay.com/itm/111427193010 Does anybody run one of these? I may end up returning it and just going the stock heat shield route. Infosecdad
That looks like the fairly standard pattern for a turbo blanket. I have a PTP variant of that pattern, and it seem to fit fine. Granted, I use the blanket, stock heatshield, and SPT heat shield as a triple layer Why do you say it doesn't look like it'll fit very well? shralp
Same form factor as everyone else’s offerings, no idea why it wouldn’t fit…
Mr. Electric Wizard
I'm probably just installing it wrong. The seam should go at the bottom on both sides of the exhaust flange (that fits to the down pipe) I'm assuming?
Mr. Electric Wizard
Found an install YouTube video from several years back. I was just installing it wrong it appears.
Notorious
For what its worth, I've used one of the universal turbo blanket strips and stuffed it in between a Perrin heat shield and it worked fine. Overkill probably even
Bobsyouruncl
I custom cut my stock one to fit and then changed the turbo....the shop took it off and told me that they don't run them because they cause housings to crack from the heat. Didn't know what to think about that..... what do I know.

Marvick08GT
My shop (Agile Automotive) tried the same. I pointed out Thermal dynamics and efficiency. Most shops want to err on the side of caution. Business is tricky Currently running a full blanket on my 7163, you NEED the blanket. Period. I am running fmic as well, there is a difference. Mr. Electric Wizard
Thanks! I have my old stock turbo sitting on the floor of my garage. I’ll practice on it before I try to install it again.
Bobsyouruncl
They don't run blankets or they don't run stock heat shields? Correct
boxkita
Turbo heats up to ~1800 degrees F. The blanket retains the heat to keep turbo at optimal temperature. After engine off, oil /water is no longer circulating to keep components cool. So components have, on average, higher wear for time. Shops usually give a warranty for work. Reducing number of customer complaints is in shop's best interest. Hence shop saying blankets are bad. Every race car has one. Race engine are rebuilt very often. 1000 miles is alot. ymmv Build my car Boxkita Track days
Mr. Electric Wizard
I finally just finished installing the blanket. My huge hands found it rather difficult but it did fit. I found a neat trick. I ended up using a rigid piece of copper to fish the wire laces around the bottom of the turbo. Thanks for all the comments guys. Mr. Electric Wizard
Doing some logging for the tuner this morning and decided to see how well this blanket works. It was pretty hot to the touch but not burn you hot. I guess it’s working.
