Jags
Hello all, I have a 2009 Legacy that I had swapped the Engine with, it turns out that oil pan had a dent in it. At some point I do want to replace it as I think the gasket is leaking anyways, but I have run the engine for 4k+ miles and have not had any issues. Is there anything to be concerned about it being dented? Oil level etc seems to be fine.

aero901
Swap pan from old engine? I had to do this when I got a JDM engine that had a crushed oil pan from shipping damage. Not that hard of a job. Location and depth of the dent would be determining factor if needing replacement. If the dent is near the oil pickup tube it could cause oil starvation under some conditions and the oil level would still appear to be fine on the dipstick. silverton
You'd have known if it was a problem when you first started the car. I'd just run it. It's not terrible to change the pan in the car, but I'm still not a fan.
Jags
Thank you all for the help, here is a picture of the dented pan. https://imgur.com/a/isHNxdt Sometime this year or whenever I feel like doing it I will replace the pan from the old engine. awfulwaffle
Woof that's pretty dented - there is probably little space left between the oil pickup and pan. I think you're right to replace it when you can
