jr2000
I have a 2018 Legacy 2.5 Premium. Some how the rear door child locks got set. I opened the rear door found the toggle, and went to slide them up to the unlock setting and neither side would move. So I try to move the one with a flat blade screwdriver , and the plastic toggle broke off. Anyone ever had issue with them? Ideas how to fix the broken one, or unlock the non broken one. ammcinnis
The child locks are integral to the rear door latch mechanisms. I've never heard of this problem before, and I can't imagine how both of yours would have just randomly jammed in the same way at the same time. Your best bet is probably to consult a Subaru dealer or a Subaru-specialist body shop. It's also worth considering how both of your child locks "got set;" that may provide a clue to the resolution. Finally, it bears repeating that it's never a good idea to force a mechanism that's designed for fingertip actuation. MoleMan
Op, Have you tried lubing up the non broken latch at all? This could help. As ammcinnis mentioned this is a very rare issue if even an issue. The only thing I can possibly think of is if the door got locked after you opened it and even though the door was open the child lock was still engaged. Good luck.
