Snowman123
Hello everyone I'm new here. Have a 2005 Outback wagon with a 2.5 that is dead. Broke the timing belt. Picked up a 2.5 from JDM in chicago. Need help with the install. Motor is in and runs but generates no power. New engine has tgv valves old engine did not. Hoping some of you can point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for the help.
SubOperator
Search for JDM swap threads here, there were a few that swapped turbo motors but I do not recall reading about non-turbo swaps here. Also try subaruoutback.org, there are people there who wrench a lot. Good luck. 2005 LGT Wagon Limited 6 MT RBP Stage 2 - 248K 2007 B9 Tribeca Limited DGM - 258K SOLD - 2005 OB Limited 5 MT Silver - 245K SOLD - 2010 OB 6 MT Silver - 205K
mwiener2
JDM motors are different than USDM motors, but not better than USDM motors. You are headed for a headache and lots of extra work. Get a USDM motor and save time and money. My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
MiikaS
I think you need to lock the tgv valves to open position.

dgoodhue
The US 2005 EJ253 is the only year that didn't have the I-AVLS, did the donor motor have the adjustable valve lift?
