07 Spec.B shift knob and steering wheel replacement

So after 200k miles my steering wheel and shift knob "touch points" have become worn to the point that the car feels its age, and I hate that. So I want to replace with OEM stock stuff. Shift knob should be easy enough to find but how hard is it to find/replace the steering wheel? Never pulled a steering wheel before, I assume there are airbag considerations to take into account....

Next question if anyone knows: Attached are pics of my steering wheel and shift knob. Both are just worn on the touch points so you can see why I want to replaces. Below are links to ebay items I'm looking at to replace it

Can I just replace the buttons with the buttons from my current wheel? I would think the answer is "yes" but want to be sure. Otherwise a new replacement wheel for me is like $375.

This definitely looks like it would but not sure if they changed thread sizes or something in the later years.

Any '07-09 LGT steering wheel will fit. The radio buttons and airbag will swap over. I have the DAMD D-shaped wheel, would highly recommend it.

 

For the shifter, any 6MT knob should work. I use the STI weighted aluminum knob (this one).

 

 

I have an OEM spec.B knob sitting at my parents' place that I'd be happy to part with for cheap. PM me if interested.

Got it. Thanks for the offer on the knob, however I just won that ebay auction for $3.25 + $9 shipping so pretty good deal. Considering most of them are going for $40-80 otherwise.

 

DAMD wheels look sweet but I dont really want to drop $600 on a steering wheel in a car with 200k on the odo haha

Yeah the steering wheel you listed won't work from my understanding because that is for an 05-06 auto. The space for steering wheel controls is not the same size as it is in the 07-09.

 

 

 

I have an 09 impreza steering wheel with wheel controls in my 05 that I really like. A little different than what ever came with legacy's cause my cruise control got moved to be buttons next to the air bag instead of the dongle behind the wheel. Make note of that too when searching on ebay and a like

I have a wrapped 07-09 wheel that might work for you that I picked up from someone then promptly stumbled on a killer deal on a DAMD.
