I Donated thefultonhow Posted November 25, 2020 I Donated Share Posted November 25, 2020 Sure. She's an adult woman. Put a male in front of a pc and see if it's still virus free [emoji38] Last virus I got was from a Photoshop crack in like 2002. Pornhub doesn't have viruses. Or so I hear. [emoji38] It's also hard to have family time in a home office, crowded around a smaller screen. You don't do it that way. Each person is on their own computer. It's less of a family thing, and more of a friends thing. My wife will be playing on her computer, my brother-in-law either on the one he has in our guest bedroom or at his place 45 minutes away, and one of his friends up in NH. When I still thought gaming was the cool thing to do, I'd do LAN parties and shit like that... but then I realized I'm not really a fan of gaming, and now I don't. Fulton SP makes decent SSD hard drives. I just mostly use the big names now. Crucial, Samsung, Kingston, WD, maybe SanDisk or PNY. When a Crucial MX500 is $35 for 250 GB and $100 for 1 TB, it doesn't really make sense to try to save a buck at the risk of losing data IMO. All my data is on a QNAP 4 bay NAS with three 2 TB Micron SSDs in RAID 5, and a fourth running as a hotspare in case any of them fails. Plus I have IDrive for cloud backup. Please don’t use PNY, SanDisk nor WD SSD’s The recommendation was not based on saving a buck, but on the bang for the buck. I have more failed Samsung drives on my desk that I have SP or Crucial drives. On average I swap out 10 drives per week for SSD’s. All the gaming machines I built I only use NVMe’s and regular SATA for all others. ---

laz
gaming machine? I need one. Suggestions? Depends on your budget and what you play. The 10th gen 6 core i5 with a 6gb 1660 super is a super good mid level machine. It’ll play everything you throw at it. Specially with a NVMe SSD and at least 16gb of ram. A lot of people swear by AMD and the RYZEN processor but to me it’s the same old AMD that overheats with time and it’s value does not hold up while not being any better performance wise. I just built an all MSi rig and all the hardware is very nice. You can look at partpicker.com to get an idea on prices and what’s available out there. You can also get a used video card for cheaper as everyone wants the latest and greatest. For gaming Nvidia is where is at for the graphics card. ---

DickDastardly00
Looking at TV's again, Was considering a Samsung QLED Q70 65" at 1k or a Samsung Q80 55" at $950 or (a 65" Q80 at $1349) The Q80 has better situation background lighting/ local dimming which does make a difference, especially in Game Mode and for movies. Eventually I will buy an Xbox Series X (sometime next year), so that is the primary reason for the TV replacement. I hardly ever watch TV. My TV now is basically a 60" monitor for my PC and consoles. ♪Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery; None but ourselves can free our minds.♫ -Bob Marley, Redemption Song

laz
Why not? It’s not so much to do with the memory chips themselves but the quality of the controller, board and cache. These things run super hot and the boards manufactured for use in SanDisk, PNY and WD are low quality. We all know Samsung EVO’s are the top tier in SSD’s, but other options are just as good but sadly SanDisk, PNY and WD fall short in that order. I have researched this and there are discussions on many forums about quality. I am not going to get into the details of it because you can easily find the information as well. I also base my experience on real life data. I have replaced many SanDisk and PNY drives under warranty that I’m no longer purchasing them. WD are hit or miss. Crucial is better made and as I stated before from use and their warranty SP make good disks that last a long time. Why do they last? Because they are not the fastest out there, but that also means the chips are not overdriven and the heat is less making them last longer. As you know all SSD’s have a finite life span but overheating the chips makes them die prematurely. ---

boxkita
The last computer I built uses a 5 drive array of 1 TB 7200 WD Caviar drives for a total capacity of 2.? TB. I was at Costco recently and saw I could buy a 10TB backup that fits in my pocket for $150. The drive array cage cost more than that. Started looking for an upgrade last January to a reasonably equivalent system. In the meantime borrowed a decent gamer rig from a friend. In roughly 22 months, the $5000 system I originally priced has become $2000. Cpu & video prices have dropped so much.
