gen 3 transmission gear width/strength

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody! first post here... i just picked up a TY754VBDAA 5MT today to swap into my WRX, the transmission is from a 1/02-4/03 Legacy B4 RSK-Ltd/RSK-S/Blitzen '03/GT-B-S. What I'm curious about is whether or not the gear set was changed along side the WRX with regards to wider gears being used in 03 OR if this generation of transmission came with the same beefed up and cold treated gears that were used in the 4th gen transmission. I'm a little worried that I may have purchased an inferior transmission when compared to the 4th gen. Can anybody shed some light on this for me? There seems to be very limited information available from what I can find as far as the internals on these gen3 transmissions. I've literally been searching multiple forums for over a week now trying to figure this out to no avail! Thanks

That may be some help on ratios.

FWIW, even the 4th Gen 5mt's are not that great. Morre Performance makes blast plates that I happen to have that help stop the case from flexing.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.
