2007 LGT AT Heater Core Hoses and Overheating

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Some of you may know about my overheating issue. I'll be brief and summarize for those who dont. If you already know skip to next paragraph. Ive gotten headgaskets done, heads machined, new mishimoto double wide radiator, trans cooler, new rad caps, new tstat, new water pump and belts, and burped the car excessively... car still overheats either up hill (any ambient temp) or over 65mph on the highway (about 90 degrees ambient temp). I am using the temp guage on the car as well as an aftermarket water temp guage. Car runs at about 200-205 around town but will go up past 210 (215+) in scenarios I listed above. I never let it go over 215 since i've replaced the heads, but this requires me to go about 55.

So, where I'm at now... trans fluid was old and burnt... i thought maybe my trans was getting hot and causing the car to run hot. I replaced the trans fluid, to no avail.

My power steering fluid has a bad leak in the rack... about a quart every week and a half. Im getting that rack and pinion replaced as well as changing the diff fluid. Hasnt been changed since i bought it and i dont know about the previous owner. (ive put 40k on it.. bought it at 100k).

Now, I have heat on both sides, it works fine. However I want to bypass the heater core just to make sure that that is not the cause of the problem. Like I said, ive replaced pretty much everything and am out of ideas before I sell this thing.

My question is: what size are the inlet and outlet hoses? I've looked but any writing on the hoses has been rubbed off or has come off over time. I plan to just connect them to an elbow hose before the firewall with hose connectors but cant figure out the size and would rather have the parts before i start rather than taking a sample to the hardware store with me...

My only other thing is lack of airflow through the radiator. Keep in mind car is stock nothing on front end has been changed. The car is lowered and Ive read mixed things about aero and lowered cars...

I apologize if this has been asked or covered in another thread.. please point me in that direction if it has.

Thanks guys!!

200-205 is warmer than it should be around town, should be more in the 180s.

Are the radiator caps and thermostat OEM?

How are you burping it?

Yes thermostat was done at the dealer. Yes rad caps are OEM on Mishi rad. Have never mixed fluid since I put the new rad in so not worried about two different colors mixing. Hard to believe it could be blocked with under 10k miles on it.

As for burping, park it on a STEEP hill in my yard so front bumper is about same level as top of windshield or I jack the front up using a floor jack. Basically attach a large bucket funnel to turbo res and run it for about half hour. Heat on full blast and a few revs here and there to about 4k.

Yeah I agree on temp being too hawt around town. My fans come on Ive checked those multiple times.

The SECOND I come off it and coast down the temp drops on my guage. Makes no sense to me.
