Chadahoochee
Okay so here is what is going on. I bought a 98 legacy L wagon. It has the 2.2, I bought this car for work so I'm not putting alot of miles in my truck. When I bought it it had some issues. Slow acceleration falling on its face when you had the gas floored. I changed everything I could thin igupdate bought brand new cats and installed them with new gaskets and o2 sensors car is still falling on its face when trying to accelerate. So what has been done, new map sensor, new knock sensor new catalytic converters and o2 sensors new plugs and wires new tps, also I now have a blinking cel. If anyone has any idea what's going on please let me know
Jadu108
you didnt check your fuel system? pump, filter, etc?
doublechaz
Blinking check engine can indicate current misfire. If it then goes solid for a while it is storing the misfire. Drive cycles may let the light go out again. Really bad acceleration, misfire, and other systems good means jumped timing belt to me. You'll have to take the accessory belts off, the crank pulley, and the timing covers for a full check. Then you can check the marks. You could try just checking the cams with the end covers, but that won't be conclusive, it's just a lot easier. Be careful putting the timing covers back on. You're not building a bridge with those bolts, just holding plastic in place. 20 or 30 INCH pounds. When you find it jumped you have to think of why it jumped. Probably the tensioner is worn out. Maybe the bearings are done on one or more of the idlers.
Brighton96
Try a new coil. My 2.2 would do the same thing when you accelerated hard from a dead stop. Swapped coils and good to go. They're like $70 new so get one from a junkyard to test the theory first.
Chadahoochee
So checked the coil today it's working as it should, also cleaned maf still running rough. I guess the next step is to see if its jumped time I will get back results soon

But I mean, when the coils get old/weak they can fail to supply enough consistent spark while under load (acceleration) I don't know the science behind it but I'd still recommend looking into a used replacement to see if anything changes. wtdash
Check the CEL - Walmart code scanners are <$20. Could be Tbelt, vacuum leak, coil, NON-ngk plugs, fueling, etc. I've thrown parts @ too many Subarus...doesn't always fix it.

Probably just the fuel pump priming?
