Two-Five Sti-L
From all the pics I've seen it appears that the HL housing is darkened from factory? Am I correct or just so happens that the members took pics at a "peculiar" angle? :P
inthedeck
from what I have seen in person, no, they are not blacked out. Pictures are sometimes deceptive...due to monitors, cameras, light (day/night) etc. later, i.
IwannaSportSedan
The headlight surround (inside the lens) is painted, or molded in-- black plastic. The bezel for the projector lens (low beam), and the high beam reflector and side indicator reflector are chrome/nickel plated. the high beam reflector is buried in there so deep that you can't see it from certain angles. You pretty much have to be looking directly into them. The black GT headlights in other markets don't have the amber reflex reflectors in the indicators. (clear when off) There is also a silver painted version, from the Japanese WR-Limited model, And the Japanese non-GT base model has completely chromed headlights, with no black in them whatsoever. Those are Right-Hand-Drive pattern, though, and won't work correctly in the US. There are pics in the pictures forum. Interesting enough, the sedan Tail lights are different, as well. USDM - Bottom red section is brake and tail light, white is reverse only, and upper red section is the turn indicator. JDM - Bottom red section is rear fog light, White section is reverse and amber turn indicator, upper red section is brake and tail. JDM Wagon tail lights are completely red, without the amber turn signal that the USDM tail lights. One of the reverse lights is replaced by a chrome/RED LED fog light, on the right side (Japan driver's side.) That is what I have been able to tell, from pictures, so far.
