AirplaneMode
Hey guys first post, hope I'm in the right place. I'm a fairly recent owner of a 2005 Outback XT 5 spd manual and I'm pretty sure I blew my transmission last night. Like I said I'm new to these cars but from what I understand the ej255 is used in many models, which has me wondering which transmissions I can look for? Is it possible a 6spd manual from a specB or STi might work? My apologies if this has been covered, if anyone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. Including a pic of the car, just barely did the suspension and bought new wheels. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

awfulwaffle
Welcome! I'm no expert, but: I don't know of any Subaru 5 speed you're likely to find that won't bolt to your motor. Most will probably tell you to stay away from the early WRX 5 speeds. The later model (06-14) are purported to have very similar transmissions to the LGT, though final drives and gear ratios vary a bit. At the end of the day, you're playing the game of finding a trans with a final drive that matches your rear diff (4.111) ratio, or replacing the rear diff along with the trans and also making sure that the axles and driveshaft will work (driveshaft and axle length, splines fit hubs and trans). Here's a useful thread that'll help you figure out what your 5 speed options are: https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/transmission-gear-ratios-and-final-drives-229267.html If you're just looking for a used stock replacement, I'd give these guys a call/text. I've dealt with them a couple of times, and they responded within a day and got me the parts I was after at a very good price. You can peruse their list of totaled cars, quite a few 5 speed LGTs: https://subierecycler.com/ Both the STi and Spec B 6 speeds can be made to work, with varying other parts that need to be addressed as mentioned above regarding 5 speeds. Here's the 6 speed swap thread for your consideration: https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/6mt-master-swap-thread-107137.html
