Cam and gear pin installed wrong

Recommended Posts

So got call from machine shop. The dealer installed the cam pin into the wrong hole and now has chewed itself into an oval on the gear and cam.

Will need to replace said parts.

My question is,

should I try to find a used stock cam and gear

Upgrade to aftermarket cams

Remove variable cam gears

Sti cams work

Any other thought or knowledgeable input

As for heads, is it worth putting stiffer springs or leave stock?

Unrelated, how to remove carbon build-up from pistons?

I would just buy a used cam and a new cam gear.

No need for aftermarket springs unless you're going for big power with big cams.

Found some used stock cams and gears. Are all the cams and gears the same for the turbo motors other then sti?

So I could use '05 wrx or' 09 fxt... As long as it's a 2.5 turbo?

These cams are essentially the same (at least intake cams). At some point the cams changed from solid to hollow.

04-07 sti

05-09 lgt

06-14 wrx
