swells
I have noticed a small oil leak on the driveway under my Subie. It has 80K miles. Not sure where the oil is coming from. Any suggestions where to start looking?
YeuEmMaiMai
since you know it is the CVT, use the extended warranty to sort it out.
cww516
Just to get the smart-ass answer out of the way first, under the car would be a good place to start looking On a more helpful note, what color is it? Preferably the fluid itself and not the stain. Wondering if it's engine oil or something else (CVT, power steering, etc.).
swells
Just to get the smart-ass answer out of the way first, under the car would be a good place to start looking On a more helpful note, what color is it? Preferably the fluid itself and not the stain. Wondering if it's engine oil or something else (CVT, power steering, etc.). Thank you. I did find it under the car. It is clear or light colored and oil feeling. I washed the under carriage and can't find the leak. I had just changed the oil two weeks ago with Amsoil. So the oil is very clean. The location on the driveway appears to be the front of the engine area. When I checked the dip stick it was over filled so I pumped out about 1/2 a quart and now it is the right level on the stick. I was thinking maybe there is an overfill tube or something. I love the car but worry about all the threads on oil problems with these cars. FLlegacy
The extended cvt warranty is 8 years unlimited mileage IIRC.

swells
I'm guessing the valve cover gasket or oil cooler "O" ring.
ArmyVetMP
If the oil was overfilled, there is a possibility that it over pressurized the system and forced some oil out some way?
swells
I think I found the leak. It was the washer on the oil drain plug. It was hard to find because it just hit the ground and did not hang to the pan.
cww516
Glad it was something simple! Also, for whatever it's worth, you'd have to WAY overfill the engine to start blowing oil out through a seal somewhere. They'll take 5 full quarts no sweat. swells
So has anyone used Lucus oil treatment? I am using Amsoil was thinking about adding some Lucas. Thoughts? BTW after the weekend no more oil spots on the ground.
