swells
Has anyone used brake light LED bulbs? I did on my Toyota Matrix and it shut down the engine because of a safety feature in the ECU. Just wanted to make sure my 2010 Subaru Legacy did not have the same issue before I bought some bulbs.
Humble Rumble
You will likely have the same issue, most 2010/11 will go into limp mode with drop-in LED bulbs in the brakelights. The 2012's are iffy, and they seem to have fixed the issue from 2013 onward. If you're competent with wiring, add in some resistors and you'll be good to go. Otherwise, I'd recommend the VLED Triton V6 brake light bulbs with their proprietary VLR6 T-coupler resistors. Only solution I've found that fully avoids any wiring and is entirely plug and play. I have it on mine and had all sorts of issues and random warning lights before I added the resistors in, and now they function perfectly. Check out these three posts of mine regarding the Tritons if you're interested. https://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5775085&postcount=6 https://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5775235&postcount=13 https://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5778741&postcount=26 2012 Legacy 3.6R Build Thread 5th Gen Legacy BM/BR Body Kit Compendium Thread
swells
Thanks. I will just stay with regular bulbs. When my 2010 Toyota Matrix went into limp mode it took me weeks to figure out after I replaced the ICU at $400 and died at stop lights. It was very embarrassing. I do like LED lights but not on brake lights because of this issue.
