YeuEmMaiMai
Well it looks like my new radio will be here today, supposedly android 8 with 8 core and 4GB ram. 2 things I added extra were the Sony backup cam and the Digital Radio (HD radio). Reviews overall seem to be very positive and unlike the windows ce unit, it can run a variety of current apps so that is a big plus. so my question to you fellas is: what launcher should I use? I will post up some pix once I get it installed. backup cam will most likely go in this weekend as I have to remove some trim pieces to get the wires run. this unit here https://www.seicane.com/oem-2009-2013-subaru-outback-android-radio-dvd-player-gps-navigation-system-with-steering-wheel-control-bluetooth-wifi-backup-camera-obd2-dvr-dab-s32780g
YeuEmMaiMai
ok, it is installed, you will need a Nissan radio antenna if you have the base radio https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000K53QAG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 2. mine is not totally flush with the dash but I can fix that by using 4 thin washers as spacers 3. the night illumination for the buttons can be any color more later
YeuEmMaiMai
you will also want one of these if you want to retain your car's USB port functionality....does nothing to retain aux in Axxess AX-SUBUSB https://www.amazon.com/IMC-AUDIO-AX-SUBUSB-Auxiliary-Retention/dp/B01JK2IOHY/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1531825701&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=Axxess+AX-SUBUSB

Scubaboo
So with the adapters, this will go in plug and play without any splicing? Can you list the adapters needed and where to get them for those of us who are looking into these?
YeuEmMaiMai
Came with the required harness to plug into the car... everything will work sans aux in when i am done

YeuEmMaiMai
the radio does come with a Subaru Antenna adapter... but in my case, I had the base radio and for some reason Subaru decided that they wanted to use a Nissan style antenna connector and I had to get the adapter for it. Scubaboo
The link says the back up camera is by the license plate light, is it a replacement plate light lens with integrated camera? How is the fit and finish of the camera? It says if I have an amplifier it wont work, how do I tell if I have one?
TwoTone
So do you use your Google account with this? I need to update my our Legacy and was looking for Android Auto units, but if this works seems promising.

YeuEmMaiMai
here are some pictures of the radio and install. 1. the unit was recessed at the top a bit so I used a washer as a spacer 2. GPS works really well and has a lot of features 3. if you wear polarized glasses, look elsewhere this head unit really exposes how bass heavy the car's speakers are 1. old radio removed 2. back of new radio.. from left to right AM/FM antenna, MIC with GPS port above that, unused port, av out port, main harness conector with wifi antenna sticking out 2 USB ports above that . 3. side with mounting bracket attached 4. front of radio 5. Nissan antenna adapter 6. Subaru USB to USB port adapter 7. main harness plugged in ready to connect to car 8. power from cam to reverse wire. those tap a circuits suck, ended up hard wiring it. YeuEmMaiMai
Android 8.0 4GB 8 core 1.6Ghz, can use very large SD cards do not buy their camera, it sucks, lesson learned GPS antenna is magnetic so I stuck it on the top f the head unit before sliding it in the dash, it works great. Perscitus
Looks very similar to the good'ol Myron & Davis (Rosen) units available for our cars a short while a few years ago. Ancient tech by today's standards but works surprisingly well. Stock steering wheel controls retains without any additional hardware or wiring, stock, premium, harman kardon speaker and OE sub support. Great backup camera, 7-8" touch screen, DVD/DivX/MP4 support, USB-in (mp3, aac, etc.) Bluetooth audio streaming (pairs without issue with Android v4-8 devices). NAV runs latest iGo Primo Q3 2017, Q1 2018 maps. On the hardware side its ancient Win CE 5/6 with 128GB RAM and a slow CPU but it works just fine for basics and looks OE (just like this one), even down to the illumination and dimming, as well as dash trim texture/finish. TwoTone
Most important question is functionality.
YeuEmMaiMai
It does everything it says it does.. no complaints about it in that regard.. the bezel matches the color of the dash perfectly...
YeuEmMaiMai
been using this for a bit now and this is what I found out 1. If you have hotspot enabled, GPS maps try to get location from that instead of the antenna.. most likely a droid setting 2. FM radio sensitivity is OK, not as good as the stock head unit 3. Screen could use a bit more contrast and brightness 4. For some reason my up volume control on the steering wheel causes iheartradio to move up the next station.. all other buttons are fine Now for the good stuff 1. it is a fairly decent amp just as loud as the stock one sounds about the same as the base unit (most likely due to Craparu(tm 2018 YeuEmMaiMai) speakers 2. Android integration with the phone is awesome 3. After a few washer shims, fit and finish are excellent overall 4. Unit is very responsive and can handle many large apps at once 5. the LEDS can change to any color you want or cycle through all of them
therick3
I am running a similar set up via Xtrons in my 2010 Legacy . In terms of launchers: CarWebGuru is my go to launcher. FCC Car Launcher is nice too with integrated mapping, but I went back to CarWebGuru in the end. The android head unit is one of the best upgrades I have made to my car in a long time...
