SubieN8
Followed the break in rules as I always do. At 1,900mi, I still haven't taken it above 4k and I don't plan to unless I have an emergency happen. There's not much power to be had, so I just accept it for what it is, and drive it like it was intended.
upstater
I have driven my three Subaru's bought since new just like I drive them regularly, I made sure not to be cruising at a constant speed, but that is easy because my commute is a mix of backroads, urban center with traffic lights, and highway. The only thing I did differently with the WRX was to let the oil warm up pretty much before letting the Turbo loose. But I did that after break in, because that is how you preserve the life of a turbo. As far as oil consumption, I haven't had an issue with any of the three Subarus. I don't think babying it make a lick of difference. But I am leasing this one, and plan to turn it in, so the next owner gets my normal driven break in, along with a car that consumes no oil, so the rings are pretty fine.
