USDM headlights on JDM 2002 Legacy B4 RSK and GT-B

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking the easiest way to do this without hacking the JDM harness is to do it under the headlight back cover, the part going to the bulbs.

This is a photo of the USDM headlight, from the back. Does anyone know which wires are positive and which wires are ground?

This is the JDM headlight wiring.

When I tested on the car side with a multimeter, this is what I found

yellow: (+) on when low beam or high beam is turned on

red: (+) on when low beam or high beam is turned on

black: (-)

green: (+) on when low beam is on, off when high beam is on

I find this to be quite strange to say the least.. I would expect at least one of the wires to be powered when high beams are on, and off the rest of the time

For what it's worth, when hi beams are on

yellow (+)

green (-)

I don't know why green is (+) when hi beams are off... I wonder now if I have a short

The headlights are fed + on the common and then returned to the high/low switch that grounds the filament that shall be lit. Subies are electrically almost like old English cars with the Lucas electrical system.

Don't worry, you don't have a short, just a really weird electrical system that you have to get the hang of mentally.
