gillbates
Hi, I would like to put a set of USDM lights on my JDM 2002 Legacy B4 RSK and GT-B for out of province compliance. I bought a set of USDM lights, and I'm trying to figure out the wiring. Please let me know if this is correct: Black wire - positive red wire - low beam ground green wire - hi beam ground https://photos.app.goo.gl/QAPrWR2DUNXfQ0OI2
gillbates
Also, just in case someone knows about the JDM wiring, here is the JDM harness inside the headlight housing. I probably have to figure it out with a multimeter on the car, but I think yellow is high beam positive, green is high beam ground. Not sure about the low beam wires https://photos.app.goo.gl/0MGH6BLsFenP7ZZe2
gillbates
BTW, the difference in quality of materials between the JDM and USDM (made in China) part was quite noticeable...

gillbates
I'm thinking the easiest way to do this without hacking the JDM harness is to do it under the headlight back cover, the part going to the bulbs. This is a photo of the USDM headlight, from the back. Does anyone know which wires are positive and which wires are ground? https://photos.app.goo.gl/QAPrWR2DUNXfQ0OI2 This is the JDM headlight wiring. https://photos.app.goo.gl/0MGH6BLsFenP7ZZe2 When I tested on the car side with a multimeter, this is what I found yellow: (+) on when low beam or high beam is turned on red: (+) on when low beam or high beam is turned on black: (-) green: (+) on when low beam is on, off when high beam is on I find this to be quite strange to say the least.. I would expect at least one of the wires to be powered when high beams are on, and off the rest of the time
roadsterdoc
Here is a diagram and explanation of how to wire JDM headlights to a USDM car. It’s the opposite of what you are attempting but it has the information you need: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/bh-gt-headlights-jdm-hid-wiring-182917.html?t=182917
gillbates
For what it's worth, when hi beams are on yellow (+) green (-) I don't know why green is (+) when hi beams are off... I wonder now if I have a short
gillbates
for the USDM side, from the link to the diagram and from looking at the wiring behind the headlight cover, I surmise Black: (+) for both hi and low beam Red: (-) for lo beam Green: (-) for hi beam

gillbates
Thanks roadsterdoc. I saw that diagram somewhere before but I didn't really have the heart to try to make sense of it. I can see that YL leads to ground... I am assuming LW and AL do as well. Oh btw it works https://photos.app.goo.gl/LMTq5pqMrsBaLuHo7 Did the other side too... can't believe it took this long for me to figure out haha
ehsnils
For what it's worth, when hi beams are on yellow (+) green (-) I don't know why green is (+) when hi beams are off... I wonder now if I have a short The headlights are fed + on the common and then returned to the high/low switch that grounds the filament that shall be lit. Subies are electrically almost like old English cars with the Lucas electrical system. Don't worry, you don't have a short, just a really weird electrical system that you have to get the hang of mentally.
