Decided I needed something a little more fun to go with the Legacy

Recommended Posts

I got the change to ride in a coworker's Grand Sport that he got last week when we went to lunch on Tuesday. That was more than enough to sell me on wanting a Corvette. I decided now was as good a time as any to embrace GM since I've worked there for over two years and am transitioning from a contract employee to a direct employee tomorrow making a good bit more and getting much better benefits (including better pricing on their vehicles). So I got myself one too. Test drove it with 4 miles on it. Got back to the dealership with 9 miles on it. Put about 110 miles on it the first day - had to do a good bit of running around to pick up a friend to drive the Legacy home. Won't have a good chance to go too crazy until it hits 500 miles and gets its first oil change.

Wish I had some better pictures, but I want to get the car cleaned up a bit more. It's also been raining nonstop all weekend, so I haven't wanted to take it out and end up with it getting dirty.

Thanks everyone! Gonna give it her first proper wash tomorrow. A friend from work has offered up his driveway so I can get her looking nice and shiny. I'm definitely looking forward to getting it nice and clean! (side note - holy brake dust. I've had it for a week, driven about 250 miles, and holy shit are the wheels just CAKED.) Definitely planning on taking some pics afterwards. Hoping I have enough time to get a coat of wax or sealant on to help it stay looking nice.

Congrats

I've owned five Corvettes though the years '69 427, '86, '89, '03 Z06 and currently an '08.

Every year they get better.

Where do you park it?

Washed it for the first time yesterday. Started off using the pressure washer with a foam cannon, rinsed that off, then gave it a regular 2 bucket wash. Used Adam's Ultra Foam Shampoo in the foam cannon, Adam's Car Shampoo for the 2 bucket wash, and Adam's Wheel Cleaner to help with the crazy amounts of brake dust on the wheels. I could easily spend a full weekend cleaning this car up, but I typically lose motivation after a few hours. Since I was over at a friend's house, I don't really have the option of leaving it in a garage and walking away for a while to pick things up again later or the next day. Hopefully that changes here in the near future - looking to move when my current lease is up at the end of July to a new place with a garage at the very least so I can wash it elsewhere, then take it back home to work on claying, waxing, polishing, etc. For now, the car unfortunately only gets kept under a carport.

You probably should have bought a different color Corvette, if you don't have access to hose and garage. Black looks so dirty so quickly. Really nice looking car, someday I want get myself back into Corvette again.

I can't really argue with you on that. My Legacy is black as well, and it's been a PITA to keep looking decent for the last ~2.5 years. That being said, my lease is up in a few months, and I have every intention of moving to a new place that has at minimum a garage, if not both a hose and garage. Thankfully, I have a good number of friends from work that have offered to let me use their driveway to wash my car. For now, I've got my pressure washer, foam cannon, and buckets w/ grit guards stashed at a friend's house. The plan is to spend some time to give the paint some real attention once I move in a couple of months. I'd like to ceramic coat it to keep it looking good. I actually just ordered two new polishers yesterday - a "regular" sized polisher with a 15mm throw and a mini polisher with a 12mm throw, both from Adam's. Should make it easy to get all the imperfections polished out so I can ceramic coat it.

Got through the main break-in finally. Hit 500 miles on the way to work today - gauge cluster is "normal" now (redline is at 6500rpm). Got the initial oil change done as well. So now I don't feel quite so bad if I go past 4000rpm. But the bigger problem is that you barely need to shift into second to get to 60. I'm dying to take it to an open lapping day later this summer, but need to get another 1k on it first.

I saw one from a distance the other day and thought it was a Ferrari

Is that like the woman who saw you from a distance and thought you were Brad Pitt?
