Need help with "buying a car", possible HG issue

Recommended Posts

Hey gang and gurus,

Need your hep here. Took a look yesterday at the 2005 Outback LL Bean, 100K on the clock. Drives like a champ, pretty clean for its age with some minor interior wear. Put it on the lift at the local shop and found the engine to be pretty dirty (see pics), mechanic claims it's a HG leak, but I take those "specialists" opinions with a grain of salt. No service history, except that coolant has been changed and same garage claims that it was "very acidic" and cause a leak in the hoses.

So what is the general opinion, is it a HG leak? 3.0 engines are pretty robust in that way... Also what could have cause a dirty oil/grime build-up on oil cooler?

Thank you all in advance.

That looks more like valve cover gaskets.

Did they measure for exhaust gasses in the coolant, and that's what they meant by "acidic" ? THen yes, could be a head gasket. Or ... what my friend found on his H6 Tribeca .. cracked head.
