Subaru event at LACR in December

Do we HAVE to register at ESX motorsports in order to run or can

we just show up and pay the $50??

FYI for those not familiar with LACR.

It's a slow and pretty crappy track...stock LGT times there

are around 14.6-14.8 @ 91-92 mph (uncorrected).

So, if you're coming from another state in hopes of beating your

best time at your local track...don't because you probably won't.

Come for the fun of seeing how your car stacks up to other Subies.

Oh, and do yourself a favor...eat before you come, again it's a dumpy old

track and the food stand is right on par with it.

I'm not sure if you can race if you're not pre-registered, but I don't see why you couldn't... I'd give ESX a call to be sure, though.

Personally, I'm just planning to spectate. I've raced LACR both bikes and cars, and don't really care for the track. I just want to see some fast Subies, not to mention the AutoX!

Tripod is correct, though, you will likely not set any personal records there, unless it's your home track!

See you there!

I'll be there. Probably just spectating, but Tripod has been trying to talk me into running my car. I'm leaning against running, since I have my twin-scroll setup still to install, but it might not be a bad idea to have a baseline...

Anyways, you guys want to meet up somewhere and roll in together?

Come on Boost, run her now baby!!

Let's see what you got in that thing. :D

By the way, what time does it start??

Dress warm guys, it's nippley up there in the evening.

Also bring something soft to sit on.

Those 1940's bleachers are hard and will get your roids a burnin.

UPS man dropped off my new helmet today. Will just have to see if it works so I'm going to do my best to make it there. Hopefully, the rain will hold off until after the weekend but it's not looking good right now for LA and Orange Counties.

Rain is supposed to clear out tonight and should be sunny/partly cloudy for the rest of the weekend.

Gates open at 9:00am according to the flyer. I'm going to Willow first to watch BOXRPWR run around the streets, then head over to LACR. The two are only around 30 minutes apart...

Mission control... we have a problem... I just heard that BOXRPWR incinerated his rear (!) brake pads today at the track. Snodork is going to be going up to Willow Springs to give him his stock rear pads, but I don't know how much he is going to run on them. You might want to touch base with him to see if there will be any action to watch tommorrow.

Boost,

LACR checks for helmets about as well as they tech inspect a car, which

is to say...."is your car stock"? Yep. Okay go ahead.

Or occasionally it's..."pop the hood" and he just looks at the

engine bay. Probably just to see if there's an engine in there. :D

I was there the other week, and two guys in a SL65 yes, the V12 TT

were there for the first time.

I asked them if they had helmets and they said no.

I saw them run at least 3 times.

See you there.

Well the event has come and gone and we all had a good time.

Only 4 Legacy GT's showed up

1. Boostjunkie

2. Rodan

3. myself

4. a new guy: as of yet on this board...but soon will be.

Like 100 WRX's and STI's showed and probably 5 or so Forester XT's and 1 Tribeca, along with a few older Impreza RS's and such.

For drag racing, it was AS GOOD as it gets at LACR.

99% of the time, there is a right FRONT head wind of 10-20 mph

(70% right side, 30% head wind).

TODAY we were BLESSED with a left Side REAR wind 10-12 mph. It was probably pushing 80% to the left side, but still 20% tailwind.

And that my friends, along with 50 degree weather made for record setting

runs (by many...actually probably most) at LACR.

I have only a Cobb Accessport Stage 1 tune on my car (and Enkei wheels with Pirelli Tires together are 2.5 pounds lighter than stock) all else is stock down to the filter and I ran a:

13.94 @ 96.04 mph

My prior best there with 64 degree weather and the usual head wind was:

14.1 @ 95.5

The few stock LGT's who've ran there run mid to high 14's @ 90-91 mph

Not having the headwind also let me get a best 1.87 60 foot time (prior

was 1.98) which is great for a LGT on a stock clutch and stock springs.

BOOSTJUNKIE did fantastic for his very first time with his car at the track.

Yes, my persistance paid off in getting him to run his car before his

twin scroll turbo goes on.

Boostjunkie has:

ECUtek Stage 1 tune from Harman Motive, a catless up and downpipe, Perrin Lightweight Crank pulley, Perrin Panel air filter, Tein coilover springs and 19" wheels and tires which weigh a pound or two more than the stockers.

His best run was his final run where he pulled:

13.51 @ 99.x (think it was 99.4) This is stock STI times on a GOOD day at LACR. With normal head winds stock STI's run 13.8-14.0 @ 98-99 mph (today they were in the 13.5-13.6 @ 100 mph range).

I think Boostjunkie's 60 foot times were in the 1.86 range too. I think he's capable

of high 1.7's to low 1.8's with his power and springs, if he would of had prior experience

launcing the LGT at the track.

There were only 3 cars in the non-WRX category that ran:

Boostjunkie

Myself

Mo - guy with a 2004 Forester XT with STI turbo/intercooler, intake, and

a several other mods. He ran a best of 13.53 @ 104+ mph. But, he was

scared to launch his car much above 3K rpm's so Boostjunkie got

him on the launch and held him off by a bumper to win the crown and the biggest trophy!!

RODAN, understandably didn't want to run his Stage 2 LGT because he

needed to drive home to Arizona and didn't want to risk damaging anything.

**On a side note, there was one guy with a 05 STI there running all kinds

of mods including 25 psi from a large turbo and 116 Octane gas.

He ran a 12.2 @ 114 mph.

His prior best, with the usual LACR headwinds was a 12.9

At a fast track like ATCO Field, that would easily of been a 11.5 @ 118-120

and that's HAULIN @ss for a 4 banger.

At ATCO Boostjunkie would of probably run a 12.9's @ 105ish mph

Heck, on my Cobb Accessport Stage 1 only tune, I probably would

of been in the 13.3's @ 102ish mph

We had a great time, hopefully you'll see some pics and videos soon

as there were plenty of photographers and a couple videographers

on hand.

Thanks to ESX Motorsports for hosting the event!

They say they plan on making this a yearly event now, so hopefully

next year more show...and it's at California Speedway in Fontana (much

better track and facilities).

Thanks all for reading this LONG post.

Thanks for posting that Tripod! Saved me the trouble. I'll post up my time slips in this thread and another. One small correction is that the Forester I ran against had a VF22. He trapped about 5 mph higher than me, but I hopped him by a tenth of the reaction time and bit in 60' and that was enough to hold him off at the end of the quarter. I really had a great time out there today and even though the field in our class was very small I still think it's pretty cool to take home 1st place when I've never been to the strip before and I wasn't even planning on running when I got there!

This was a solo run before the "finals"

Here is the finals against the Forester. I'm in the right lane.

Thanks Boost for correcting that about the Forester XT's turbo.

You know what's funny...I know that guy didn't want to launch his

car too hard and therefore he didn't trap nearly as good as he could (I think he could of been in the 13.2's with a harder launch) but I think he

kind of stinks at shifting too.

Why do I say that?

Well, in looking over my timeslip when I raced him I noticed a couple things.

1. Because he was afraid to launch his car too hard, I of course

beat him out of the gate. My 60' time was exactly .2 seconds faster than his.

2. This is where I say I think he must of stunk at shifting.

At the 1/8th mile mark, I crossed it .14 seconds BEFORE him and

was travelling .81 mph FASTER than he was. Now his car has A LOT

more power than mine (witnessed by his 103-104 mph trap speeds compared to my 96 mph trap speeds) By the 1/8th mile we're 1/2 way through third gear. His heavily modded FXT should of not only caught me

by then but he SHOULD of been going faster than me too.

Also, looking at your timeslip above, he posted a 77.515 mph in his 13.59 run against you.

That's still SLOWER (by .028 mph) than my best 1/8th mile trap speed.

So, without a doubt, even though he's afraid to launch too hard, the power

he has in his car should have him posting faster 1/8th mile trap speeds

than my CAP Stage 1 only LGT.

The only explanation for why he's not, is because he can't shift very fast.

If he...being a slow shifter and fearful to launch too hard...could trap at 104 in his car, I'm sure if I took his car for a run I could have it doing d@mn near 13 flat today with 1.7 60' times too.

By the way, when you get your twin scroll put on, we gotta go

up again. And you gotta let me do at least 1 run in your car to

see how I do with it. :D
