Drive by wire sets off radar detector

Recommended Posts

Hoping someone can shed a little light on what might be happening:

I use a Valentine 1 radar detector, and finally put it in my '05 OBXT yesterday. Almost immediately, the V1's laser alert began going off. Totally random spots, BOOM, laser alert.

What I finally noticed is that the V1 alert would coincide with hitting the throttle at perhaps 40% - 50% tip in or greater. So it seems the signal of the drive by wire throttle is being picked up by the V1, but why would it be a laser alert? And why is it only happening at say half to full throttle?

It's funny you bring this up. I have an issue similar where my laser will also go off but only when at 100% throttle.

mmh. i wonder if what you experienced is also what is causing btssm to restart at random when you are at WOT. It also causes all of the USB devices hooked up to my Nexus 7 to loose their connection to the tablet. It's like a spike in voltage or something.

I believe mine only goes off when I have btssm and auto logging on.

This is a known issue. People have tried various fixes with various levels of success or not...

As for V1 radar detector... Make sure you have the latest features turned on or get your unit upgraded if you have older hardware. The feature to limit false alerts was by default turned off on my unit but available - turning it on helped. Check your serial number here.
