headlamp height

can someone measure from the bottom of the ground on a level surface to the top of the headlamp light on what ever reflective surface. trying to get an approx number in inches to get the headlamp aim height correct. 2015 legacy. thanks

??? The DOT aiming standard for low beams is 2.1 inches down at 25 feet.

While I agree that headlights are typically aimed down and thus the further from a wall, the lower the cutoff should be, I wouldn't really say there is a "standard" headlight aim. It is really going to vary from vehicle to vehicle.

 

Also, typical aiming procedure involves doing so with the vehicle 25 feet away from a wall.

so technically 25ft away you could just measure to the ground to the middle of your projector bulb and have the cutoff 2.1 in lower to that measurement.

 

Essentially, yes. That 2.1 inches at 25 feet = 0.40 degrees downtilt.
