Vin numbers tat start with J instead of us made cars

Recommended Posts

This one will offend all you union pushing junkies.

It seems to me that the J made cars hold up better then the one's that are made in the good ole usa.

I would like to see the differences between the quality of the lgt vs. the wrx

I feel cars produced in the us are crap. The average american auto worker could care less if you are broken down by the side of the road or if your dashboard rattels endlessly.

A native of Detroit and know living in a right to work state the difference in work ethic is night and day.

have you ever been to a us auto producing facility? a bunch of drunk deadbeats

I feel the subie plant and other foregin car makers(mazda excluded) have much better standards then the lifeless us makers.

I feel the new Mazda speed six is prohably a better assembled then the lgt but not better dedigned.

this oughta get good... :munch:

anyhow.. a number of members here have been to the plant in indiana, and i've heard nothing (nor personally witnessed anything in my own car) to give me the impression that our cars are crap.

every car is going to have a few rattles and annoyances. Doesnt matter where it was built. How many japanese cars are actually built in japan anyways? My old nissan was built in mexico and our honda was built in the US.

just becuase one car turned up with a beer can doesnt mean all the workers are drunks!

Dude... you do know that Mazada is (p)Wned by Ford/Volvo etc?

I highly doubt our Legacy's are built "worse" or "assembled" worse than a Mazada.

gotta be honest, partly agree. well at least the japanese made cars in the late 80-90's were well made, my family still has a 91 geo prizm running around >200,000 miles. whereas in that same time frame we've been through 2 -3 fords (fords suck, never gonna get another - although the mustang is tempting). i thnk the consumer reports stuff doesn't seem to show that now the euro/jap makers building in the US haven't been showing more defects than before. there's always the argument that the global market for parts has become so specialized that many manufacturers use the same sources for specific parts. whatever, my car runs fine right now...

I think the drug and alcohal use is slighly less in Japan.:icon_bigg

The only problem with Idaho is that it is becoming califitoxicated. Get my drift eh.

Okay geddyup,

Just one quick note. You seem to have the misconception that in Japan it's a perfect auto-producing paradise. :) As a Safety & Crashworthiness Engineer for a Japanese company doing testing for primarily GM and Toyota... I can tell you it's not a whole lot better than here in the US. The management and engineering STYLE (i.e. problem-solving, meeting formats, etc.) are surely different, but in terms of the general blue-collar worker or even low-level engineer and his attitude, you'll find "drunk deadbeats" in all countries.

From personal experience, the Japanese are a.) heavy drinkers, b.) stuck in the "we-did-it-like-this-before-let's-not-explore-change" mentality, and c.) have a general disdain for Americans, especially in the workplace. But back to the point... doing crash testing for Toyota, I've seen plenty of corners cut, valuable testing avoided due to cost, and general laziness in engineering from them, just as much as from GM (who might I add, is one of the SLOWEST-moving companies in terms of engineering progress on vehicle launches).

Now as far as how all this correlates into quality of builds, my point is simply that EVERYONE cuts corners, and Japanese workmanship is definitely not what it used to be, (although in my eyes, it's still well above the Big 3 engineering-wise) but I'd still feel just as comfortable buying a car from an Indiana production facility as from Japan. If you could show me a statistical breakdown of J VINs vs. non-J's... then I'd be all ears. :)

That's enough rambling from me... have a good one man! :)

I am not quite sure I agree with your logic geddyup, but I had two japan built wrx's and one Japan built RX-8. The first wrx was a Subaru buy back because it had a b-pillar rattle that could not be fixed by my dealer...a real long story. The second wrx was fine, but by no means bulletproof. My RX-8 was in the dealer for a combined 36 days in the first three months of ownership and I invoked the lemon law. I now have two american built GT's and have been impressed with how well they are put together and have held up over the last year and a half. In addition if you read Automobile's recent long term review of a GT wagon they talk about how well put together the car feel with over 36,000 miles. I am of the thinking Subaru does things better than GM and Ford in terms of assembly here in the good ole us of a.

I had an acura TSX that was made in japan and it had tons of problems with rattles and annoyances..

Engineers just dont think ahead enough about all the climates that the materials are going to be in.. for example i havent had any strange noises in my car until it started getting cold and now i have a damn dash creak..

elgayto-- I was jk on the perfect world. Lighen up francis

Having owned to many american built cars I have had quite a distaste for them. I bought an 04- v-6 fwd 4 runner.

33,000 no problems no rattels great buy

new subie(which i have already popped and extra 6k on wheels and stuff under the car and under the hood )has had a few minor issues.

dash sqeek

momo wheel tear

heat system failure

center console delaminating

scratches on the windshield

defective wiper blades

I just put this post out there to see if the majority of board members had an opinion either way on the issue.

i appreciate all the responces. The good and the retarted

My car is put together exceptionally craptastically. To the point where I've started taking stuff apart and re-assembling it myself the way it should have been done. I shouldn't be able to see my misaligned trunk misaligned from over 50 feet away. I really need to do a few doors and the entire dash but just haven't had the time.. but it pisses me off all the time. I went to a Subaru showroom in Shinjuku and I followed all the lines just to check, and it was damn near perfect.

geddy....That wll be eL GaTo, Franciso, Lighten, 4WD, Rattles, Squeak, and Responses. Even retards can spell. If I mispelled a word, let me know, I like to learn.

If you are planning on buying a Toyota around 2007, check the VIN before shelling out your shit ton of money because some of them will be assembled in Subaru's Indiana plant.:woowoo:

Ahahha! I need some popcorn. :D

Gotta be some numbers out there that relates to the discussion.

Hmm, let's see... I think the Subarus made in Japan suck, and the ones that are made in the US are much better. I'm right and everybody else is wrong. Don't make me have to drive around beating you all up! :D
