Boost hitting way too late

I'd go with "magnetic" but I'm curious how they are controlled with regards to managing the oil flow. I've only known valves of a similar style to be open or closed, no voltage control other than "on" or "off".

The OCVs are solenoid valves with two hydraulic spools. They are controlled by the ECU using pulse width modulation (PWM). The duty cycle of the control signal controls the position of the OCV either to advance or retard valve timing.
