New stock 2005 legacy gt owner need some help

Recommended Posts

LOL,

Welcome to the forum.

Don't be in a hurry to spend your money. These things can burn it up quickly.

My set up, see my click here link in my sig is what a lot of members use as a guide. These cars are quick without having to be above 300awhp.

Read some of the post in the Tech Forum and take notes of what you think you want.

We'll need to know more about your car before we can safely recommend things.

Don't buy an CAI for the car, the stock intake is hard to beat.

remove the banjo filters and the catted up pipe.

Learn how to check the oil and NEVER let it get low, ALWAYS top it off weekly.

Everything you need to know is here, read, then ask questions, we're here to help.

You'll need this too, http://people.csail.mit.edu/ilh/vacation/

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

330 crank or wheel? Because that's going to change things a lot.

For 330 crank what is often called "stage II" is close enough (320 ish). Accessport/eTune, Up-pipe, Down-pipe.

For 330 wheel prepare to open up the wallet, empty it, and then go to the bank to get a loan for some more. You'll need a new turbo and full supporting mods, see here:

http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/turboi-wiki-twist-178684.html

Additionally these cars are what, 13 years old now? You'll likely need a new short block soon once you get into swapped turbo territory.

But if you have cash to burn and another vehicle/bycicle to take you to work, the sky is the limit on these cars.

Don't get hung up on a horsepower figure, think about the budget first. Stage 2 is where you get the best benefits/cost. Once you go beyond that, as utc_pyro says, things can much more expensive. As power goes up, more things need to be upgraded, and reliability tends to decrease. These cars are getting old. Remember, you'll need to keep money in reserve in case serious repairs are needed.

Crank and im just trying to get ideas for long term rn im just wanting stuff to make it run smoother and wondering if i should switch to a vf52 turbo

Go stage 2 first. Everything you need for a VF52 swap you need for that.

You can do a VF52 later, but you'll need a new fuel pump at the very least and probably and intercooler. Also a clutch if you're MT or valve body and transmission cooler if AT. Then your tuner will say you left power on the table and suggest bigger injectors. Then you blow the block, and go forged. Then you realize you can get a bigger turbo now....

Or just make sure your engine is healthy, at 13 y/o... that's a stretch.

stock fueling, vf52, the 3" catted down pipe, catless up pipe, will get you where you want to be.

Cobb AP or open source tune, from http://www.tuningalliance.com is who you want to contact and buy what you need from him.
