nzsubsub
So I was doing a full service on my 07 Legacy GT today. Oil and Filter, new air filter etc. Did a 3x3 drain and refill with ATF-HP but I forgot to put the new filter on! ARGRGHGHGHG!! Was in a hurry I guess Drove to the end of the driveway (about 20 metres) and found I had no drive. Immediately pulled over and realised what I'd done. Installed filter and refilled lost fluid. Worried about what possible damage I may have done?
MilesA
It's doubtful you caused lasting damage since you only drove a few meters. ATF transfers power, but also cools and lubricates the transmission. You lost enough fluid to where power could not be transmitted. If you drove a longer distance with low fluid, the transmission would have begun slipping and overheating, leading to permanent damage. If you want to be on the safe side, you could drain the fluid out again and put in fresh, remembering the filter this time.
nzsubsub
Well, seems to be fine so far. Actually driving better than it was as I also cleared the TCU memory with FreeSSM
