200kSpecB
Alright, quite literally ripped off the turbo inlet today and it was full of oil (1), checked the inside of my intercooler and that was also pretty bad (2). After seeing what serx said I checked the compressor blades, seemed fine but saw this (3) on my finger, I'm guessing a mix of metal and oil? Anyways, I finally got the passenger side banjo bolt out and the filter is FULL. Can't see any light coming through even with a flashlight behind it but at least I got that out. I'm wondering if maybe my P0021 was triggered by the P0011? Either way I plan on checking everything before I even think about starting it. 1. 2. 3. 4. Darth SpecB
Before splitting the block. Make sure you have good oil pressure. Measure it with a gauge. This will also verify that the pump is working as it should. If you ran the engine on no oil for 6 miles, I would be concerned about worn bearings. Drain your oil, pull your pan and look for glittery metal specks. If none then you may be okay without a rebuild. P0011 and P0021 are associated with cam shaft position. Low oil can cause this. You checked your OCV solenoids. I would clean them. Also verify that there is no banjo bolts with a clogged screen supplying them. It is quite possible that your bearing debris may have got into your AVCS gears causing them to bind. So prepare for the worst, but it may be just a simple fix. Good luck! I'm dealing with the same codes as of right now and they are relentless. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
Max Capacity
I had both those codes when my trusted mechanic removed the banjo filter and told me to keep a ear open on the turbo noise. I got 1000 miles more before the whine changed to a whistle a 1/2 mile from home one morning. I turned around, parked the car in the driveway and ordered the vf52. I got lucky. No other issues from that. here's the thread with the old turbo. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/142-000-miles-oem-turbo-168561.html 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. 200kSpecB
does anyone know if the water pump has to come off to take off the drivers side rear timing cover? I'm about to take my cam gears off and just realized this might be an issue
Max Capacity
I can't recall, but check the timing belt DIY thread, I'm sure there will be pictures there. The T'stat neck may have to come off for clearance...? 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. NotYourAvgSpec.B
Well all the bearings in the car for the most part are journal bearings and rely on oil and oil pressure to actually act as a bearing... If it was running that long with no oil I'd say you've got alot of work to.do.. yes turbo is shot, shaft play should be imperceptible, also, main bearings, rod bearings, hell even your piston's wrist pins and the cooling off the piston skirts rely on oil.. it sounds like it's time for a total rebuid imo And any variable valve timing system relies on oil pressure to move the phasers. Hell even the compensator your cam followers require oil pressure.. some may have collapse..
200kSpecB
being a poor student I'm going to take my chances and fix the current issue and go as far as the engine decides to take me.... then when it inevitably dies I'll look at building from the ground up that said, whats the best way to flush as much of the oil system as possible? I currently have the drivers side cams removed, should I remove the passengers side? I don't want to put in a new turbo before flushing the system... but not sure if I need to remove the old one before I try flushing or what... thanks again everyone, hahaha basically directing all my questions at max at this point... 200kSpecB
also I'm sending an oil sample to blackstone. Looking at the banjo filters they were fully clogged but it's hard to tell with what, I'm assuming metal at this point.
Max Capacity
Good luck. 200kSpecB
Found some glitter in the oil filter so I've decided to pull the engine and see what I can save, just waiting on some better weather now. Wish me luck lol
