Huxley
Hey all, 2005 Outback XT. Removing the turbo to inspect one last time. How on earth do I get the hose coming out the very bottom of the turbo off? The up-pipe is definitely in the way, but I can't seem to do much of anything. It doesn't want to budge and the clamp on the lower portion doesn't want to move much either with a long pair of pliers on it. Any suggestions appreciated! I'd buy a new tool for this one. Moderators BarManBean Posted February 27, 2017 Moderators Share Posted February 27, 2017 Cut it in half, remove turbo, replace hose "Bullet-proof" your OEM TMIC! <<Buy your kit here>> Not currently in stock
FJuan
Did you completely remove the Downpipe to have full access under the turbo? If not, do what BMB suggested and cut the pipe. My wife's balls are delicious.
Huxley
The downpipe is off (the uppipe is on which is what's in the way) I think this lower hose might actually be an oil hose. A writeup elsewhere on the forum says reach under the turbo and remove it. I don't know what kind of finger strength you're all rocking, but I'm a rock climbing guide and this isn't budging from below and I certainly can't find it by reaching my hand anywhere from up top! I also can't seem to fit any sort of cutting device in there. I'd need an xacto knife that's about 24 inches long to clear the frame and get around the uppipe. whitrzac
Hose going straight down from the middle of the turbo is an oil drain line. Hose wraping around the turbo and pointing towards the passanger side is coolant. This hose usualy has some sort of heatshielding on it.
Huxley
It's the oil drain line then. the only way I can see this working is by removing the uppipe. Am I wrong?
Huxley
Welp, got it off and now I know why the turbo wasn't working. Wait until you guys see this vid...
derp
Glad you got it off. I usually go in from the passenger's side standing at the wheel, and reach my left hand in between the turbo and the transmission. I undo the bottom clamp and slide it down off the hose, leave the top one, and pull the turbo out with the line still attached. I could suck start a snow blower.
