Navigation and software update

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

What is the last version of software and maps? I have v4000 and maps from 2009. (western and central europe maps)

What do you all have?

If there is any update, what would be the best way to update it?

Thanks

Best way to spend your money is to take the ridiculous amount they are going to charge for an update that is still probably not complete and put it towards a receiver with Android Auto / Carplay.

That's my eventual plan. Too many priorities before it, though :(

Will those aftermarket receivers allow us to maintain our steering wheel controls. Can they use the existing antenna for XM radio?

Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure there are modules for the swc and the xm radio connection are most likely universal, remember subaru doesn't manufacture radios, what is in your dash from the factory was probably made by clarion, Harmon Kardon, Pioneer...etc.

This, we have a Pioneer in my wife's legacy with a module to keep steering wheel controls.

^ Given that the antenna and steering wheel controls are maintained. A reverse camera should be do-able as well, right?

Did anyone ever connect reverse sensors to it (that work). While at the DMV one time, I had a long talk with an installer that told me the aftermarket sensors at that time were too sensitive to shadows. That was 2 years ago.

Today I was driving and something weird happened. I was going on reverse so on navigation display back camera was shown. Then I put D and navigation display switched off. Touch panel was still working though. When I arrived home I put reverse and camera was shown and eventually When switched back to P Display came back. Did it happen to anybody else?

The site for official updates from Subaru's supplier is http://www.subarumapupdates.com/index-en-gb.html

Note that for my 2013 Subaru I use a chip so I am stuck with the 2013 version of the maps although one update has occurred. It has more information that the memory card in the system can hold. So they have to update the software to read bigger cards and they are working on it to solve that problem for the older cars.

The 2013 and 2014 Legacy have an updated Navigation system compared to the 2010-2012 models. This includes a completely different update path.

According to the website, it applies to the 2012 and up Legacy. You are right though, the 2010-11 is the older system. My bad, sorry.

It looks like that website is European, yes? The model years are a year earlier compared to the USDM models if I recall. I own a 2012 LGT with navigation and I have the same nav system as the '10s and '11s. If I want to update my system, I need purchase a set of very expensive DVDs.

Actually, you pick the country (I picked USA) and it gives you the correct years. The company (Harmon Kardon) is European that supplied the radio, so that is why the site is European - it is not just European delivered cars. I went into the website and selected Legacy for the USA - it claims you can buy the download as well. Perhaps it was only some 2012s and not the GT?

I think you're just picking the country for maps to download. I *have* a 2012 Legacy with navigation. It is the *same* navigation system as found in the 2010 and 2011 USDM model years. There was only *one* navigation system on offer when we were car shopping. We looked at all 3 engine options before we placed an order to have a LGT built. This system is run almost entirely on system DVDs that are inserted into a slot below the "regular" CD/DVD slot for music and movies. Official updates are not available by download, but through purchasing a new set of DVDs that are ridiculously expensive. Here's where you can order the updates: http://store.kenwoodusa.com/catalog.php?cat_id=S19

Note that it's for the 2010-2012 Legacy/Outback, as well as the Impreza/WRX/STI and the Forester until 2011. These are all USDM model years.

The mid-generation refresh occurred for the 2012 model year *outside* of the United States. The refresh included a new navigation system that stores maps, I believe, on a SD card. Updating this system is possible by downloading updated files, such as through the website you've linked.

Okay, thanks. I note there are exceptions in that screen shot from the CDS like the 2012 Forrester. But in any case, it is clear it is unfortunate that the Legacy is stuck with the CD system.
