Cooling System Radiator Up sizing .. Misimoto MMRAD-STI-08X

Recommended Posts

What's the 411 on uprating the factory radiator's core size in an effort to enhance the cooling system. I'm considering a swap of the OE radiator with a suitable Misimoto brand (MMRAD-STI-08X) 2 vertical row (w/2.00") vs the OEM 1 row (w/1.00") capacity radiator. The OE radiators modest flow rate metric could use a upgrade when the XT is operating at the margin. Anyone have experience with the Misimoto aluminum radiators? Seems many a hot rod'd WRX motor is fitted with the brands enlarged 3 rows.

Our Outback XT has the 5EAT automatic gearbox which relies on a traditional/simple cooler circuit as in a "trans cooler tube" fitted inside the lower radiator tank. Years ago when the OB XT was new I'd ditch the OE trans-cooler for an aftermarket Hyden brand transmission specific cooler (5 row) located 2" in front of the A/C condenser/radiator assembly. When the engine cooling fans are operating fresh ambient temp. air is drawn though the trans cooler onto the A/C condenser/radiator.

Any word regarding the Misimoto model MMRAD-STI-08X?

Cheers, Mike

I have this rad and the XX (Larger) on my cars. They fit and work fine you will need to trim 1"-.5" from each hose. If I were to do it again I would get the Koyo Rad aluminum replacement radiator. It is about $50-70 more on Amazon and fits better with what feels like higher quality casting.

+1 .. Thanks Rhitter for the "radiator fitment" thread link. Man, 5 pages of fitment procedures. The Koyo brand seems to be the preferred fitting, best quality radiators ... I'll give the Koyo radiator a go ...

Read through this thread -

Basically, it fits, but hoses have to be trimmed.
