Jaybird2013
I was hoping for an easy install on the KDT927 kit, but The nuts are rusted and corroded on the studs. The studs broke free, but there is no room to remove them. Need the diff to come down 3"-4" to install new hardware, and I'm not sure in how to go about that. Can I loosen the sub-frame to get the clearance I need? stud- #13 in figure below http://static.opposedforces.com/epc_img/366495119506.png Self locking nut - #1 http://static.opposedforces.com/epc_img/366495141501.png Any help would be greatly appreciated
Max Capacity
Get a floor jack, I used my tranny jack. Drop the front of the diff and you'll have enough room to finish removing the studs. It will tilt forward as you lower it You'll need to un bolt the drive shaft. don't worry the axle splines will pop right back in. I had to pull my diff a second time after finding out the used one I just installed...someone buried the fill plug threads and I couldn't get the fill plug out. Had to use my old cover. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Jaybird2013
Byron, let me see if I have this right. Unbolt the drive shaft then unbolt the front diff cradle (looks like 4 bolts in the lower diagram I posted) then Support the front of the diff with a jack as I lower it to get the clearance I need? Jaybird2013
With a lot of patience and PBB I was able to work the self locking nuts free of the studs and install the inserts. I wasn't looking forward to dropping the diff tonight, glad I didn't have to!
