New heads on an old block?

Recommended Posts

So after the notorious misfire issues it turns out that my engine has experienced the other notorious problem...bad exhaust valves and valve guides. So time for the heads to be rebuilt or just replaced.

My question: Is it safe to use my current bottom end with brand new heads?

The engine only has 117,xxx miles on it. While I can't speak for the previous two owners, I myself have not beat on the car.

Just get your heads rebuilt.

That's something that is done every day. Find a good machine shop, you may even be able to ask the service manager at the local dealer who they send there heads to.

My buddies auto machine shop does lots of heads from the local car dealers. http://www.eastwoodsautomachine.com

That's a question for the experts at the shop.

My buddies shop still gets at least one set of Subaru heads a week to rebuild.
