that_nicker
So after the notorious misfire issues it turns out that my engine has experienced the other notorious problem...bad exhaust valves and valve guides. So time for the heads to be rebuilt or just replaced. My question: Is it safe to use my current bottom end with brand new heads? The engine only has 117,xxx miles on it. While I can't speak for the previous two owners, I myself have not beat on the car.
Max Capacity
Just get your heads rebuilt. That's something that is done every day. Find a good machine shop, you may even be able to ask the service manager at the local dealer who they send there heads to. My buddies auto machine shop does lots of heads from the local car dealers. http://www.eastwoodsautomachine.com 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. that_nicker
That's what I figured. And yeah I have a couple reputable shops around here that I'll be calling in the am.
that_nicker
Since my valve guide came out already would it be susceptible to failure again? I can only assume some material that creates a tighter fit has been worn away.
Max Capacity
That's a question for the experts at the shop. My buddies shop still gets at least one set of Subaru heads a week to rebuild. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).
