Reading covert's G20 thread and decided I'd also like to show you guys what keeps me from the finishing this XT. This is the G, I sometimes call her Gertha. It's my autocross/summer fun car.

1.5 years ago, I sold my Evo and spent most of last year racing my daily Mazda 3. Every year we head up toward the Canada border and do a 3 day event at Loring Air Force Base. The place is HUGE, land speed record huge. FTD for both competition days were around 1:15. The S2Ks and Miatas were hitting 4th in places. Our club allows you to run 2 cars So every year we beg, plea, borrow and steal each other's cars to double the seat time and have more fun. On Saturday I was graced with the opportunity to revive my love in a B Street Evo, which was a blast. And on Sunday, I was offered an opportunity to drive an '04 track pack G35. Hell yeah.

Here are a few pictures from that event. Not a clean run! (or car!)

After coming off one of my runs with a huge smile on my face, my buddy makes sure to tell me that everything he owns is for sale. I carried on throughout the day and continued having a great time. Two days later, I asked him what his bottom dollar was and he gave me a price I couldn't refuse. Bought it that next weekend.

The current mod list/condition at the time:

- 75,000 miles (no winter)

- Godspeed front sway bar

- Cusco front A arms

- 18x9.5/18x10.5 Miro wheels with 255/275 Nitto Invos (we were running square 275s and different wheels at Loring)

- Intake plenum spacer

- Takeda intake

So...mostly stock. The plenum spacer put it in ESP, otherwise STU. But with the (lack of) difference in PAX between STU and ESP, ESP it was.

Got the car home that next weekend and gave her a nice bath, light polish and a wax.

A couple weeks later, we had a local event at a small lot. I had been driving the G for the past 2 weeks, and the battery was dead in the Mazda, so I decided to go have some fun in the G.

Here are a few pictures.

And here is some video. I'm regretfully posting the video of my 1st run. lol Note the botched launch with VDC on and my efforts to turn it off mid run. Then note the Oh $&%#! sessions! haha. Couldn't believe it was "clean."

Here was my last and fastest run.

I was around 2 seconds off pace, my best being a 43.2. The Mazda surely would've beaten it.

I put it up shortly after that event for the winter.

Over the winter I did the following:

- (2) more 10.5s

- 275/35r18 RE71rs all around

- Whiteline bushings throughout the front end and rear diff bushings.

- RS-R 350z springs (they were the only ones with a moderate drop, higher rates and linear)

- 3" Single Exhaust

- Corbeau seats, fixed driver's side, BC sliders on passenger side.

how it sat

After my 1st run at the 1st Autocross this year, they checked me with a decibel meter and after my 2nd run I was asked to leave due to sound. Measured 103db at around 35'. I complied. Then rushed home, swapped the stock cat back on and made it back after lunch. Ended up wining my class and getting #1 PAX.

Swapped the battery for a super light Shorai Lithium. 32lbs saved.

Event #2. Wound up with #2 pax.

I also took the car to a friend/fellow autocrosser's dyno. He just built the garage addition and upgraded his old 4 post/2wd dyno setup to 4wd in the ground. Mostly went to check it out and just get a baseline on the car before tuning and a few more parts. But I also wanted to see whether the Hypertech tuner was actually doing anything. Turns out stock makes 1hp more. But it holds 14.7 AFR all the way to peak tq! wowzers. Get your tunes people. Even though the Hypertech doesn't do much, it will save the motor. As it is, it's way rich on the Hypertech tune, but that's much better than stoich.

I was really surprised how consistent the 1st 2 runs were. All runs were within 5deg IAT after the run. Some sat longer due to the flashing process.

The last event was Event #4. I had problems getting clean all day and finished #10. Now 5 points behind 1st in points.

Re-installed the 3" single exhaust this past weekend with a Borla XR-1 split core muffler added.

It's still too loud above 4k. ;( Idle, cruise and low-mid load are not much (if any) louder than stock, just with more rumble. But WOT is not much different than before the muffler. It's not as raspy, but sound level is still up there.

Burns 2 stage muffler on the way. It should be really close to just replacing the slip fit fart can on it right now. Worst case, I make a cut in my piping and have to add a tip to the muffler. This has got to be the most expensive single steel exhaust ever.

I made a turndown with the option of adding steel wool today.

Next event is this weekend at a new lot, bigger than most of our other options locally. The local Subaru dealer is sponsoring and bringing their race car.

In 3 weeks we go back to Loring, where me and the G first met a year ago. Here is a video from 2 years ago in my old Evo from Loring. The place is effing HUGE! Main runway is 2 miles long.

Finished 2nd place overall PAX for the season locally. I pretty much had tire issues for the last 4 events, including our big one. Tires losing pressure during runs and replaced two, then was plagued with major over steer. But I managed to hang on to the points.

Here is a video I did of some dyno tuning.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtO0meVKBYY]G35 Dyno Day - YouTube[/ame]

I made 237/248 this past spring on it with a hypertech tuner and stock Y-pipe back. Put the loud y-pipe back on it and returned in Oct and started at 229/238. ?? wtf He's still sorting things out with the dyno and I still wonder if the numbers are consistent. But I'm still happy to have gained 11whp and 22ft-lbs of tq on that day. And that's really what matters. I wish I had done this earlier in the season. Car feels great on the street.

Plan to pick up my game a little more next season and do some more out of state events. Should fun with some more stick and the new hp.

forgot this was here!

Did a bunch of stuff to the car over the winter, added some hp and made it lighter, put some nice suspension and 315 hoosiers on it. Im currently leading in points with SCCNH and the car is awesome to drive. This season has been huge in development and looking forward to getting more serious next year with NER.
