mailman
I finally got around to installing a new front crossmember (the previous had been run into a curb and bent badly enough to need replaced) but the nuts won't torque (I'm using 61 ft lbs). The nuts just spin. Also, there is some play even though I have the nuts as tight as possible. So, I can replace the bolts. But do I need the OEM bracket, or would some kind of genetic bolts work? The OEM bracket has a thin piece of metal holding then together on top.
doublechaz
Can you tell what grade the factory bolts are? If you can you should match grade.
mailman
I'm an idiot, haha. I thought it was odd that they would all strip out. Even though the crossmember appeared to be flush and the nuts felt like they were just spinning in place, there was a little left to go. I jacked up the crossmember a bit more and was able to get them torqued down
