Looks like it would impede air flow just a bit more than the stock grille. Right after I did my grill, I notice I could hear the turbo spool up more. It definitely sounded like it was getting more air, not less. If anything, even with the mesh installed, it actually opens up the grill more to airflow. I remember before I did my grill mod, I had the same concern as you.
