BBPeik
So I will be mounting a WBO2. The instructions say that on a turbo motor it should be at least 36" from the exhaust port. Where have you guys mounted them? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks My someday I will be done with it thread.
fahr_side
It must be installed between the turbo dump flange and any cats. The stock front O2 sensor is right after the flange, so just install it alongside the stock one. I know it's not 36" from the exhaust ports. I know it's probably only an inch or two in front of the cat. We've done it this way on dozens of 5th gens without any issues with sensors. Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs. FLlegacy
Well the exhaust ports are on the heads so...it's probably close to 36 inches. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk

BBPeik
So I need to mount the O2 before the cat. Any chance someone could post a pic looking down in the engine bay at the cat so I can see a good place to mount it. I think I know but just want to make sure. GTEASER
Some time ago BigBopper posted a pic of his AVO DP with an added bung in the place you are describing. Nameless put the auxiliary bung after the cat on their DP, does that really matter for an aftermarket wideband? BBPeik
From what I understand it has to be in front of the cat for accurate readings. That is what several tuners have said. So that really only leaves one option. Above the front o2 at about 10 o clock. I found some good pics through lots of searching and it looks like that will work. I will post info on fitment once it is installed as this could be very helpful to others. My someday I will be done with it thread.

BBPeik
Those are just the two normal ones. What about the third one? My someday I will be done with it thread.
GTEASER
OEM wideband is the one on the right, OEM O2 is the one above it in the pic. GTEASER's 2012 Legacy GT - Sold GTEASER's 2009 XTeaser - Sold GTEASER's 1992 Legacy SS - Sold
BBPeik
Those both are factory o2 spots. From what I understand the front is more of a wideband than the rear, but is by no means ideal for tuning stage 3. Could it be used, yes, should you have an aftermarket wbo2, much better idea. GTEASER
These are the OEM locations for the sensors. Yellow arrow is OEM wideband, Red arrow is downstream O2. Nameless put their auxiliary bung for aftermarket wideband just to the left of the OEM downstream O2, IIRC. BBPeik
True which is weird since the wideband should be in front of the cat. My aftermarket will be right next to the factory upstream. My someday I will be done with it thread.
Rutchard
Mine was installed somewhere around the red arrow, well past the cat. No issues. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v307/Rutch/CarPics/LegacyGT/wbo2location.jpg
BBPeik
I have seen a lot of people who have installed them that way. I was told it needs to be in front of the cat, so that is what I am gonna do. Sure would have been easier mounting it somewhere else though that is for sure. My someday I will be done with it thread.
FLlegacy
Funny that it "needs" to be in front of the car, but most tuners put theirs on the tail pipe when dyno tuning. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
fahr_side
A WBO2 wants to be in front of any cats. If you install after a cat it will read leaner than it really is. I only do a sniffer type (tailpipe) reading if 1) there's no cat installed and 2) the owner just won't let us put a bung in the downpipe. Remember it takes time for the gas to pass through the exhaust system so the further away the sensor is from the heads the less useful the data gets when you're trying to tune fuel on pulls through the rev range. Rutchard
Yeah, I'm not saying it was ideal, but it was close enough to make jam. Also getting the wires into the cabin from there was easy peasy.
BBPeik
^^^Did you run through the firewall in an existing hole or did you create a new one? My someday I will be done with it thread.
Rutchard
I cut a new one, somewhere around 0.75"/19mm. Whatever the smallest hole I could make that'd let the plug from the WBO2 sensor into the car. Shot a little paint on it to protect the bare metal and picked up a rubber grommet that was the same size as the hole. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure I put the hole somewhere to the right of the gas pedal. Step drill bit made quick work of it.
