kawasakikl
What do you all think? I put a whole new timing set on it, Gates brand, including tensioner, could it be the tensioner? I noticed when I pulled the pin on the tensioner, it didn't move and I could simply put the pin back in. Stethoscope couldn't localize the sound, sounds like it's coming from harmonic balancer area. GEE-OTTO
Did you reuse your original timing set? (Pulleys, etc)

kawasakikl
Did you reuse your original timing set? (Pulleys, etc) Everything is new on timing set, minus cams and crank pulley. I also replace the accessory belt tensioner pulley.

fotofan
It's very likely a problem with the Gates tensioner; see this thread for more info. I put something here like all the cool people, except there's nothing cool to put here.
kawasakikl
Hmmm, always found Gates to be decent... Really puzzled me when I removed the grenade pin and could reinsert it without force. I really wish these weren't interference engines. I will inspect my OEM tensioner and reinstall if it's the problem. Is there a way to unstick the gates tensioner? fotofan
Yeah see Gates used to be great but they've recently started cutting corners it seems. I put something here like all the cool people, except there's nothing cool to put here.
kawasakikl
Yeah see Gates used to be great but they've recently started cutting corners it seems. Apparently! Hoping my tensioner is bad! Just got off chat with Amazon. They issued a full refund for the entire timing kit (~$116) and I don't have to return it. This is why I shop with Amazon. Maybe I can just replace the tensioner with my old one and drive on? We'll see.
fotofan
Well yay for Amazon! You should be fine with another tensioner, unless it skipped a significant number of teeth which isn't hugely likely. I put something here like all the cool people, except there's nothing cool to put here.
