stevenva
Replacing a bunch of AC O ring gaskets. I will be replacing the receiver/drier as well. Does anyone know how much oil to add to it prior to hook up. RIP 96 Legacy 2.2 4EAT lost reverse @ 374,000 miles
scar13
The manual says 5 millilitres (0.2 ounce) for a 1998. Oil your O-rings before installing them. If there's no tracer dye in the system get a single-use bottle of it and add the dye to the system (make sure it is 134a compatible) instead of oil. The dye is oil based. This way if your system leaks you can use ultra-violet light to help spot the leak. Make sure and get the air vacuumed out of the system before you charge it. David E
There are machines available that measure the amount of oil vacuumed out so you can replace it. Just replacing the receiver dryer itself won't be much, but if vacuumed by a pro machine, which I recommend, will remove oil that has to be replaced with clean oil. Up to a point the more vacuum you can draw the better the system will cool. When I took a community college course on A/C we routinely left the vacuum pump on for a full hour.
