Cylinder 3 misfire

Recommended Posts

I have a 2005 LGT EJ257 swap and I recently had a check engine light come on for a cylinder 3 misfire. My first instinct was bad spark plug so I replaced them and that didn't help. Then I tried replacing the coil pack that didn't help either. After some research I found that it could potentially be a burnt valve since cylinder 3 is so close to the turbo. Im really hoping it isn't that. I was just wondering if anyone had some ideas on what could be the problem.

Didn't you have the heads rebuilt when the ej257 was installed ?

Or did you do a complete long block swap ?

Like said above, swap injectors.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

The 257 was brand new when it was installed. It has about 50,000 miles on it now.

My cyl 1 misfire was burnt exhaust valve. Have you swapped injectors? Sometimes injectors get gummed up. I tried swapping plugs, coils, injectors, and then leakdown and compression test which showed bad exhaust valve.

I haven't swapped injectors. That was my next step.
