RustyRuu
so i was wandering can you take a ej255 or ej257 short block and put ej251 sohc heads on them? the idea being that you gain the semi closed deck sort of thing, possibly gaining head gasket longevity and a stronger block. it would not be run with a turbo but naturally aspirated. would you need to throw ej251 pistons and rings in? i know the rods would be the same. i think there is some oil return possibly from the turbo that would need to be plugged too. its just a thought since i may need to replace my shortblock. RustyRuu
i,ve heard of the opposite things happening with sandrails. like people have a 2.5 engine N/a with an open deck. put 2.2 rods on it and ej255/257 pistons, then run the 255/257 heads and turbo. so that would lead me to believe i can use the 255 or 257 block i would just need to find out if i need different pistons. charlie91
you can I'm running one in my 2000 legacy around 10k on it now no issues so far. you will need to run a wrx crossover tube or take out the extra pcv vent and plug it off, I used a bolt that fit simi snug with some rtv and ground the head of it so it wouldn't interfear with the crossover tube. no other mods were needed on mine. RustyRuu
did you keep the same pistons from the 255/257, or use the 251 pistons?
