puke... :(

OP:

I put my headlights about 15ft away but directly in front of my 155kBTU Salamander for about 5-8min and then rotated them and then again for another 5-8min.

I was able to work on them while they stayed heated. I kept a sweatshirt and gloves on so to not burn my arms or hands. This has worked very well for me over the years. yes i was sweating my arse off but it's brief.

Hope that helps others. ;)

hahaha. yeah right. I can grab pretty much anything that is too hot for others but it's the backside of my hands that the heat hits. That is a sensitive area for all of us.

I can grab the headlights, that doesn't burn me, but the butyl can because it sticks to you like glue and traps in the heat.

I wear nitrile gloves and then rubber palmed gardening gloves over top of them. Keeps good insulation.

Simply with a card board box and a $21 bucks Wagner 0503008 HT1000 1,200-watt Heat Gun and 15 minutes later.

I would look into obtaining 2015+ WRX Limited headlights for the projectors. They are LED low beam projectors and are self leveling as well. Might be worthy of dissection although they are rather small projectors. 2" maybe??

I can get you pics when I pick up my car late next week.

the wrx limited led's are junk compared to a hid retrofit. i also dont think they can be retrofitted easily.

FWIW The Retrofit Source recommends 35 watt ballasts (not 55 watt) for HID low beams, and it is plenty of light. 55 watt will overdrive the bulbs, shortening their life, and probably not produce that much additional usable light (HID uses high voltage to produce the arc -- warm up takes a few seconds at least, then the voltage drops because it takes less voltage to maintain the arc -- less voltage but more light than a similar sized halogen bulb, for example).

I did a similar retrofit on a WRX replacing halogen projectors with Morimoto D2S, it is really more of a process to open the headlights (drop bumper, remove headlights, open headlights, etc) than to swap out a projector, especially if you can find a mounting bracket (less dremel work and customized fitting involved).

Also, there are a lot of expensive HID bulbs on the market, I have been really happy with my relatively cheap Morimoto bulbs.

And the bi-xenon function is the best, when they open up with your highbeams it is daylight time at night.

These bad boys came in:wub:

RX350 non-afs, ordered from lightwerkz.net. If you sign up for their email list you get a discount which made them the cheapest place I could find at $170. Also purchased Morimoto D2S 4300k bulbs and high beam splitters from them as they were cheaper than I could've made them for.

Also picked up some AMP to D2S adapters so I can use my current XenonDepot ballasts until my kit sells and I can order some Morimoto ones. Had to do this to keep from exceeding my mod budget:p

What bulbs are u using for your high beams?

My legacy has OEM HID low beams (using Morimoto 5500K bulbs) and OEM high beams (halogen bulbs).

When I did the WRX I had the same thing, but used a Morimoto D2S projector with bi-xenon, 35 watt ballasts, and same bulbs (replacing the WRX OEM halogen low beam projector), along with OEM high beams (halogen).

If you have a bi-xenon projector, you won't need anything extra for high beams, imho, because your HID projector will open up and the OEM high beams will also come on at the same time.

Tested out my projectors today in preparation for my retrofit tomorrow. Repeatedly triggered the solenoids using a 9v battery to make sure they didn't stick at all, and got the bulbs powered up to make sure they and the amp to D2S adapters I purchased work. Really looking forward to it:cool:
