Timothy.B
Just bought (well buying) a 2011 Legacy 3.6R. I'm a little confused on oil. I believe so far all that's been in it is 5w30 conventional and the dealer recommended every 3750 to change the oil or 7500 for full synthetic. Should I and when should I switch to full synthetic? Currently 36k miles on it. Also, should I consider switching weight for when winter comes. I live in northern ohio and we usually see temps drop to 0 during the winter, sometimes -5. Windchill likes to drop to -30 up here on the lake. Timothy.B's 2011 LEGACY 3.6R
NORULZleggy
I have been running Amsoil everything In my Legacy since 25K miles, I am now at 150K. The car runs great. I have also switched all my LGT friends and wrx/STI friends. They love it, and do not burn much if any at all. I burn none.
dookie
Ditto previous. 0w-30 AMSOil (& their filter) year round in my 3.6 with 10k OCI & maybe 1qt added. Also, their ATF works great in the 5EAT. Based on analysis in a previous application, I expect 100k OCI here.
DonnyJagaru
I generally run conventional 10W30 in the summer and synthetic 5W20 in the winter. My logic is the heavier oil gives better lubrication but the thinner synth is better when starting a very cold (-24C) engine. This strategy works well and means I can stretch out the interval when its very cold and I'm less inclined to change the oil. All oil companies agree you can switch back and forth with no worries and my experience backs that up.
