New shortblock or machine work for long engine build? 6+m

Recommended Posts

I picked up a spare longblock to build for my LGT. Engine had a rod knock, I paid ~$300 for a complete longblock...

Disassembled it. Heads/cams look good with no scoring.

Crankshaft is fubar. #4 rod bearing is now part of the crankshaft.

I don't need this rebuilt now, I don't need this this month. I'm not installing it until it gets warm out next year.

Options as I see them:

1: new oem shortblock, forged pistons. Simple, probably not cheap...

2: new crank, new bearings, forged pistons

3: machine crank, etc

Does anyone have experience on what is the least expensive route?

Where do you live ? Any decent machine shop can advise you what to do.

If you get a new cranks the block will need to be line bored.

What are your HP goals ?

Have you read the click here link in my sig ?
