TLN
Hi. Ive ran into great OBXT recently. Great condition, I like it. But 08-09 OB XT have a new design grill and it sets me back: chromed, and different shape from previous years. I know I can plastidip it, but I'd like to know if there's any options? I would like to have a mesh grill, but cannot find anyone did it before. Options? Chrome grill on USDM OBXT: http://photos3.automanager.com/020199/03a8958c54d4d4459a353947b14031bb/ae198b9325_640.jpg What I want: http://www.k2k2.jp/img/UserCar/demo_car_bp5d/002.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s108/wujek1976/lgt/2008-11-09_150707_a__3931.jpg I see that 08-09 OB XT have a straing like at the botom with chrome part, and previous have a cut for grill. older looks way better to me, but may be I will change my opinion when I see some modded MY08. It's just plasti-dipped but the 08-09 face grill has grown on me. The up side is the 08-09 have aux port, no catted uppipe, SI drive,

TLN
yea, 08-09 have some cool benefits. Black on black looking really cool! Btw, that OBXT I was looking on was Black too. With plastidipped grill it looks way way better. I might photoshop some mesh grill, when I buy it.
Flinkly
If you REALLY hate it, can always buy the front panels of an older gen outback/legacy and swap it on. Can get back to an aluminum hood that way too. I've also been planning a 3d printed honeycomb "cover", but haven't had the time. A grill on my desk would make it way easier to design though, if anyone knows where to get one inexpensively. Sent from my XT1028 I might be able to eventually lend you mine (at least two months away). I need to remove my front bumper to repaint it and the grill would come off at the same time. Plus, I have been driving significantly less lately so no grill for a couple weeks wouldn't really be a problem. My OBXT build
Nonamedude
Necrothread! Was looking to see if anyone has ever done a custom mesh or honeycomb with the facelift grill instead of a full jdm swap but not having much luck. Anybody? Bueller? Mine is already blacked out. Flinkly
I just got a spare, and seeing the back side, it seems easy to make something that would snap into the openings. But i haven't. And i'm planning on getting a new job soon, soy existing access to free time, materials and machines is about to disapear. * Build Thread * 26.53 MPG - 12 month Average *
Flinkly
Embarassing how long ago that was... * Build Thread * 26.53 MPG - 12 month Average *
Nonamedude
Dang. No worries! Someone in the jdm thread posted some honeycomb mesh they'd used and I think I might try to grab a junk yard grill and cut out the slats or something. Was just hoping someone had managed something first. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Flinkly
Yeah, i saw that mesh too. It looked a lot better than most honeycomb i've seen, almost stock. No link provided though. * Build Thread * 26.53 MPG - 12 month Average *
Nonamedude
I'm still secretly hoping they'll link it. Or maybe I'll start searching for some. If a honeycomb grill looks good that's much cheaper than a full jdm face swap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
serg10
I heard of people using honeycomb grills from early 2000's fords.

serg10
Heard of someone using a Ford Crown Victoria honeycomb grill. They take their OEM legacy grill and cut everything out of the middle and retrofit the honeycomb grill in the middle.
Nonamedude
He's referring to this. https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/08-09-diy-lgt-sti-grill-119128.html Definitely an option. I think the honeycomb linked in the jdm thread looks a bit better and is possibly cheaper. Since apparently the crown vic grill is a little small for the facelift and the outback facelift looks to have an even bigger grill. https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Plastic-Racing-Honeycomb-Spoiler/dp/B01BR0OEOE/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=universal+racing+honeycomb+hex&qid=1607959557&sr=8-
