rayeve
I thought I might try (for the first time ever) replacing the shocks on my wife's 05 wagon. But images of compressed springs are a bit daunting to look at. Is there significant danger in doing your own shocks with spring compressors borrowed from Auto Zone? Thanks! Andy_Mac
Not really. Stock springs don't need all that much force to compress enough to safely remove 2000 Legacy B4 RSK - SOLD 2006 Legacy BP5 GT Spec B wagon - Garage Thread 2011 VW T5 van 2.0L of turbo diesel awesomeness
CapnJack
It's more dangerous to NOT use them.
firepyro515
It can feel scary at times, but as long as you take your time and not rush, you will be fine. I just did my suspension the other week.
hal9e3
Remember, spring compressors don't kill people, people who use spring compressors wrong kill people! Seriously, they do require a degree of caution - give yourself some space, make sure they are attached 180 degrees apart from each other on the spring, etc. Also, it's been a while but I think you'll want strut, not spring, compressors as they have smaller fingers so they fit between the shock and the spring. You may want to double check that with the store.
