Direct iPod Connections

Pro'ly a microproc' of some kind to help the ipod communicate with the stereo. The only problem is, I'm almost certain that is not for the stock HU, but for the special Kenwood one you can only get in Japan (no help) :(

The white one is a Pioneer unit. From what I can see.

I admit that I cannot read Japanese, and that my computer cannot even display it for me to read. I also admit that while I think I read "Kenwood" on the unit, it is hard to tell and wouldn't bet much money on it. However, the only word in english on the page that advertises this stereo is "Kenwood"...making me fairly sure it is a Kenwood stereo and that the Kenwood ipod connection is for this ipod capable stereo.

Also, it's the same stereo right & left in my previous post. Just one is in the car with "ipod" in the notes and one is out of the car, closer up.

It doesn't even matter what the stereo is though, because it uses the same double din opening you can get from AVO jpn...and an AC system that's not compatible w/GT & XT dual ACC. Plus...it's ugly. :D

I am curious how many people would be interested in a Ipod direct connection to the stereo though...track display, control from the OEM radio, the whole bit. I've been debating taking this project on myself...not a simple task, but possibly worthwhile.

Honesty, my only interest is to be able to play my iPod through the speakers with a cable. I can care less about the track info/controls/etc. I just want to play my iPod on top of that cupholder compartment and be happy.

+1 The same thing I want without having to use a blank CD

My input board allows you to play the iPod or another Auxiliary Connection without having to use a blank CD. All you need is a CD (any CD) in your player and the board will switch between that and the iPod.

So you would take the Dock cable and convert your 1/8" into RCAs and hook it into my board. More information is available in the Another: Plug-n-Play for 6-CD Changers in the Interior/Audio forum.

I am going to create a walkthrough for installation.

^^^ Sorry, what I meant to say is no CD at all. Yours looked very promising when you stated that it could be used in any mode (FM, CD, AM) and it would mute it, but now that you have to play a CD then it comes back to the same issue of having a mute when the CD repeats, and having the mechanism always playing. I admit it is better than a blank CD, but it would be cool if it was in any mode.

Mkay...so there's not much interest for controlling an ipod. What everyone wants most is just an auto-sensing aux-in that does not run CD player? That's still pretty complicated...but a tad less of a mess than the whole ipod package...probably more useful for the gps/nav/XM people too.

In MSB's post #1, it's the white box on the right.

It's made by Pioneer -- model CD-IB10. It allows the head unit to control the iPod, shows song titles on the head unit's display, and it charges the iPod's battery. It appears to have two different style connectors to connect to Pioneer head units that use "IP bus".

The price of 10,500 Yen is about US$92. Hope it's not much higher if/when it makes it to the US.

Information on Pioneer Japan's web site (translated via Google). Original Japanese page here.

Pioneer product info page with Flash animation. Shows a Japanese head unit controling an iPod (with Japanese text on the head unit's display). At the end it briefly shows the IP bus connectors.

I believe the system spoken about above is for the pure system from Kenwood, not the system avail in the USDM version, always the way. But Im sure plenty of ppl would love if someone can prove that theory wrong.

Yes but as I have asked in other threads and spent hours last night trolling thru the McIntosh site, does anyone have any info on this unit and the direct link for iPod.
