rear climate control vent hack

Recommended Posts

^^ I disagree with this statement. The Temp you set the system at affects the amount of air directed to the rear vents. I know it sounds silly, but it is true.

Set the blower on 3-4speed

Set the direction on whatever. (the OM says rear vents are always on.)

Set the TEMP to 75*.

Feel the back vent.

Change the Temp to 60-61*

Feel the back vent.

The air flow will increase significantly.

What this tells us, unfortunately, is that Subaru decided to control the rear vents in conjunction with temp. Unfortunately we do not get full control with direction and blower speed. So, in the winter, when my kids want hot air to blow out and warm them up, they get nothing. Instead the floor vents are supposed to fulfill this lofty goal. Unfortunately, my kids are in car seats and they throw their coats on the floor or there is a bag in the way and they get no floor heat due to an obstruction.

At least they can get A/C when it is hot. It is what it is.

Actually I'm not sure there is a hookup. I looked into it a little more. It looks completely blocked off.

We'd need a picture from a Limited to compare with. Any volunteers?

We need a limited owner to take some pictures!

They'd have to remove all the shifter trim, center console sides, and air vents.

Not exactly difficult to do but still not likely to happen soon.
