Sound deadening install question

Recommended Posts

Yes, I have done a bunch of it. My first question is what did you get? If you got ultimate or extreme - that's not sound deadening that's vibration dampening.

doors - (makes the speakers sound a lot better and gives the doors a nice solid feel)

hatch - helps reduce exhaust and booming noises

floor - helps with road noise at speed and filters out some of the higher pitched engine noises.

The hatch will be effective for removing the exhaust drone. However, you still need a sound blocker. Extreme is for vibrations - the vcomp will block sound.

That being said I just put down something similar to extreme (RAAMat BXTII) + PS ensolite in my hatch and it reduced a lot of the exhaust noise (oem exhaust). It's all additive though, the more you do the better it will sound. I would start with doors and hatch.

I'd like to do my LGT and my wife's FXT.. hers sounds like a tin can. Just curious how much material I'd need to pick up.

At the minimum, I'd do the doors, hatch area (bottom and sides/fenders, wheel wells). Not sure I have the balls to take out the carpet.

Also, unless you're doing full audio competition, 25% coverage of panels is plenty for reducing road noise. I usually cut small strips of deadener and space them out evenly on the outer door skin- except behind the speaker, I cut a bigger square for that.

Here's deadener and closed cell foam (on rear doors only). The difference is heard on the inside of the car.... and more apparent in person.

Snow?

It snowy and rainy later in the day, but no snow..

Did you pull the carpet out too? That part I'm nervous about doing..

It actually snowed most of the day here in the west end.

I took a pic once I had it all apart. Did the whole floor including the spare tire well and both quarter panels as best as I could. I didnt overlap the factory sound deadening.
